New sun protection mask from Japan

this face protection looks like  a Muslim veil   that so many women wear around here

here women wear it for religious reasons  as they believe that it protects one from the fire of the hell

Japanese women wear it for practical reason  - they wish to  have fair skin

many Arab women wish  the same

now - the invention  of this new Japanese Niqab is that it leaves an open area for the nose
the one who wears it  can breathe normally

In Japan  many wears it  already while driving or exercising  outdoors .

In Europe it is totally forbidden in most of the countries .

The Funniest Fake news about Qatar

some of the "best of  "the fake news spread about this country

Dairy products and Turkish vocabulary - Qatar 50 day of siege

It  had been the Saudi who brought to Qatar  a lots of dairy products before : milk  , laban , labneh , sour cream , keshta , creme caramel used to be my favourites .  They used to be the cheapest counter . It  has been for 50 days that they do not bring it anymore ...

In one  supermarket where I frequently go  - there is a long  counter offering dairy products . Two third of it has been always Western ,expensive , medium priced products from France , Germany ,USA  even there is one Hungarian cheese brand .

When my friends ask me if I find  food for us  in Qatar then I say - yes . There is no reason to feel sorry for us . Especially when I think of some war torn countries citizens in the area .

Some brands disappeared -  new ones came.

Now the dairy counter - the cheap part is filled with Turkish and British milk . The latter is more expensive , but people understand the labels . As it is in English  .

The Turkish dairy products do not always have info on them in English . So  at the supermarket there is a small help with  Turkish words translated into Arabic , English , Hindi , Tagalog .

  something like this

 Süt - milk ,حليب ,दूध , ,gatas

this is the most expensive restaurant in Qatar - I guess

I have never been here - they offer very special delicacies with camel meat and date syrup

Generally , I find there are only few restaurants in Qatar that offers special local dishes .Ducasse reinvents the Arabic cuisine . That sounds very  exciting .

Health Club - Saraya Corniche Hotel review

We arrived  on a Friday afternoon in Ladies Time . It is a great thing that they have such hours .So few places in Qatar has such time when the expectations for most Muslim ladies not to mix with  men when swimming . We had a pass for one single day . We were thinking about a two monthly membership before arriving .

In the changing room water was flowing everywhere  . Some people took shower and due to the wrong inclination of the floor   water  did not go to the  floor drains but came out . So typical mistake around here !

I wanted to work out in the fitness room and my trainers got all wet !

We were the only customers in the gym and it was fine . No music , no  employees - just the CNN and Trump and Macron - we were forced to watch them .:(  no remote control ,either .

After that we got to the swimming pool area .  Right as we entered  there was a pool of 1 .46 m  with jacuzzi and two families . Kids pool was in an upper level . It was a strange ,long narrow pool .

There were only 2 other mums wit their kids .

So I just started to swim in the pool near the jacuzzi  when a little girl jumped into the deep water and started  to sink  and come up  - she did not know how to swim ... I screamed and swam towards her -  I hoped to be able to grab her from behind without she pulls me down  ... just a second before I could have caught her  the mom jumped in and pulled her out .So much relieved we were .

She was showing me  that her hearts beats very much . So did mine . My relaxing afternoon project was ruined . I was very tense after this traumatic experience !Though I kept swimming  during the coming one hour every time a child approached I yelled at them " this is deep water - can you swim ?" Most of them was not able  to do so .

While swimming I was reading the house rules . Number 12  -  everybody is using the pool on his own risk . The hotel does not take any responsibility in case of injury  or death .

No lifeguard was employed . A five star hotel !

When the ladies hours finished we returned to the changing room's area  - it was incredibly messy . No cleaner turned up during all this time . However it  had sauna and steam room . We opted for the sauna but it was out of order . The steaming room worked . Finally it was the best part of our health club experience . It was very small -only two seats -but strong ,clean vapor came without any bad smell .

Meanwhile I came across an employee  who just came to use the toilet  - i asked her to bring us towels as in the swimming pool area   towels just finished  - she was just kind  to help us  -it was not her job ... they did not provide  shower gel  - only lotion and hair conditioner was available ...

It could have been a nice afternoon if they had some cleaner in the changing room area  and some employees in the swimming pool .it is absurd that customers has to pull out drowning kids from the pool ! House rule number 12 should be cancelled !

I can not understand how any hotel not alone a five star hotel can leave  their guests on their own without staff  this way they did !

Musfer sinkhole - by the Salwa road

I wrote some years ago that I grew up in a special town in Hungary that had an underground cave right under the hospital building and a cave lake and a system of unexplored system of caves
. The limestone there looks like very much like the limestones in Qatar . and that I suspect that there are similar places in Qatar as well .It is exciting to see now this video and hear that these people also suspect more interesting caves around here .If you are brave enough you can go down to the cave like these people  and visit this sinkhole .
Who told that Qatar is boring in summer ?

Awtar Restaurant review - Eid brunch buffet at Simaisma Beach ,Murwab resort

I went there with great expectations . Their advertisement looked so great ! Fancy style setting of lavish buffet : with prawn Cocktail or Kabees. Salad, Chicken Caesar Salad, Greek salad or Caponata Salad .

THIS WAS THE TABLE WITH WONDERFULLY LOOKING ENTREES IN THEIR ADS

and this is the photo of what they actually served AS ENTREES

In reality they had some large bowls as entrees with canned mushrooms and canned vegetables that I would be embarrassed to offer to my family on a festive day .

No fresh salad at all ! NO prawns ! No chicken Caesar . No caponata !

They had lentil soup that was so bad that I could not finish . I am great fan of soups - that was the worst one I ever tried .

,
The main courses were better . Some Arabic or Indian style stews or curries . I had lamb stew , paneer curry , vermicelli rice , potato dauphinoise . They were all tasty and well cooked .

But where were the live cooking stations that they promised ? Tempura or pasta stations ? There were no live cooking stations at all ! No sign of sushis or any other Japanese cuisine !

THIS WAS THE DESSERT TABLE IN THE ADS'

The dessert table was full of cooked , sweet rice by the time we arrived there . Nothing else ! The French pastry vanished quickly - some kids were begging for them - but the waiters were reluctant
to serve more cakes .When most of the people left and we started to take photo of their miserable dessert table then quickly they served two more small cakes !
THIS WAS THE DESSERT TABLE IN THE REALITY !

Coffee came for free !

The service was always polite . We had the coffee in the  terrace with sea view . That was really special .

The food they offered clearly was not worth the 82 rial per person ! For the little selection of food they offered 30 rials would have been reasonable .

It was with Qgrabs coupons .So the original price was double ! I felt it was a scam with all the things promised and the few things they actually offered .

Numbers in Qatar - more than 400 patients at Emergency

It is just the usual overeating at Eid-al Fitr , at the festival after Ramadan .

It is just ironic  as some Egyptian TV channel  spread the fake news that we are starving in Qatar .
_____________________________________________________

No one case was too serious luckily  -but myself I saw kids throwing up at two different restaurants  we had dinner at .   It  really spoils the dinner ! At least we did  not overeat for sure ! But we chose a certain place at the Lagoona Mall because  they have large area with slides for kids . After my kid was playing for 20 minutes  I called him for diner  then I found he was trapped  . A child vomited at the exit of the slides  blocking the way  and the cleaning staff was very slow .After dinner he returned to play just to see that the slides themselves were dirty too . But the cleaning staff just answered " do not use it " and that is all ....

Manhole accident at Wukair - six year old boy dies

It happened again ! And the same scenario  - family  dines out  and a kid goes missing then they found out too late that he fell in an uncovered manhole !

It happened in Wukair  on the eve of Eid -al Fitr !

source

In fact  it is very difficult to save someone from a  manhole -  even when  they notice at once that  someone fell into . They are 5 .5 meter deep !

Four years ago another little Indian boy died when walking just some meters ahead of his family . Someone even went down risking his own life  - but the boy fell in coma and later died in hospital .

Another little boy died in the center of Doha  some years ago while his family was dinning -  the little expat  Arab boy fell into an uncovered manhole right in front of the restaurant .

Iftar or Suhoor

When you are planning  an eating out with your loved ones at Ramadan you can take  into consideration
that late night meals called Suhoor in Arabic are much cheaper than the sunset meals called Iftar .

For example this five star hotel offers a late night buffet dinner for QR 145 in a stylish tent set up for the fasting month .

Where do Muslims tend to travel for Ramadan

Travelling for  the fasting month is a new trend . Travellers  take in consideration the climate , the  length of the days which  can make the fasting easier . So the top destinations nowadays are not the Middle Eastern countries  because of their hot weather , nor the European countries because of their long days in summer .

This may change in the coming five years as Ramadan will move to the cooler months  .

Now let's see the most popular  countries for Ramadan tourists .

1 . Malaysia

2 . Indonesia
3.Singapore
4 .Turkey
5 Brunei
6 South Africa
7 Maldives
8 Iran
9Morocco
10 Jordan

Ramadan festival at Katara

You can expect various programs and events at the Katara Cultural Village during the fasting month .

Religious lectures , Quran memorizing competitions , Play station  championship - FIFA2017 -brain games ( dama , domna , kerem , sabbah )  , fun traditional games , treasure hunting .

Exhibitions by local artists , live painting , palm tree exhibition , tea exhibition , various workshops

and a lot more  - discover the beautifully lit area  with its indoor and outdoor activities .

 SEE MORE INFO HERE

Treasure hunting is a fun game  - it us usually outdoors and not long after the iftar . So you have a chance to win as there are not big crowds there . At least this is what I saw  last time I visited the place .

TEA EXHIBITION  sounds fun . I love  teas and hope to learn about them more .

PALM TREE EXHIBITION also seems interesting to me

date palm is mentioned 20 times in the Quran

it is a staple food around here - or at least it is used to be

still a much respected tree here decorating , parks , promenades , yards

Ruman restaurant - Souq Wakrah - review

It was a Friday afternoon that we decided to visit this restaurant . I had bought coupons and was very curious to see  this place and taste their dishes .

We arrived around 5 pm . We were shocked to see that we were the only customers . The restaurant is situated inside the Souq not  at the seafront . There was a tree and some chairs in front of the restaurant and that looked inviting . However we were afraid from the flies and decided to go in . It was a charming Indian  interior in rustic style . At first glance I found it lovely until I noticed  those paintings in large baroque frames . They looked awful  and spoilt all the charm of pure village home .

The second shock came when we learnt they had no toilet we had to go outside nearly to the sea shore the find one !

We had to wait minimum 20 minutes though we were the only customers . My butter chicken was tasty but stale . The rice as well . I got stomach ache at once . My husband had mutton and he found it mediocre . Our son was the  happiest among us he liked their hamburgers very much .
Long story short  -  I had this "deja vue "  or " deja mangee" feel ... yes this is  the old Caravan restaurant's style dishes ! It reminded me that place very much !
That old restaurant that burnt down some years ago at the Ramada junction . And officially  they never reopened !  I remember then many people told about them " jack of all trades but master of nothing " -  and really this restaurant offered dishes from India , China , Nepal .
My greatest concern about their cuisine was that it was not fresh at all .!

We had the dessert outside under a tree . The sea smell reached this terrace , the heat was bearable - we were sitting and relaxing  there watching the small clouds in the blue sky . It was nice and memorable . What a luck that nobody can put baroque paintings on the sky - i thought . If one day I return then it will be for these chairs and tree  and the memory of the sky .

If I long for Indian flavours in the future I  would choose rather Zaoq or Black pepper  .

The largest MONOPRIX in the world is OPEN

I am very much eager to see that new supermarket . They promise a lots of brands that can not be bought elsewhere in Qatar . Will there be some  Hungarian / Eastern European products that I have missed for long ?
Next week I might tell you more !___________________

Well - I visited the  " largest Monoprix of the world "  - it was a big disappointment for me . I  do not know how big are the other Monoprix in the world but this one was not very big .Not bigger than other French supermarkets .  There was nothing  new for the Central/ Eastern European customers .I found Hajdu cheese like in any other major supermarket .  The selection of items was not impressive except for the chocolate section . There were a lots of chocolate brands that you can not find at other places . Even limited edition chocolate boxes  . Expensive canned tunas  - over 200 rials . Organic grocery products . Nice selection of alcohol free wines . I think that  one can find a good selection of gourmet gifts here . But nothing special for everyday consumption . The bread shelves were nearly empty - we had to wait at the bakery counter to be served and it was very crowded . The frozen section  consisted of limited items . You can find more variety at Megamart   or at Spinneys .  There is a salad bar  a grill bar  and a pizzeria inside the supermarket . They all looked wonderful .

After the supermarket I walked to the IKEA - I  had the impression that there was more special items in the Swedish  grocery there than in the Monoprix .
