GREAT NEWS  for the beach lovers . Katara beach  is one of the best beaches in Qatar . It will be free from tomorrow .You can enter  and swim    from 9.30am to sunset - after sunset no swimming allowed . It is a great place for kids - it is a sandy beach with playground .

Water sport rides  and the inflatables  are not free .

Manhole accident at Wukair - six year old boy dies

 It happened again ! And the same scenario  - family  dines out  and a kid goes missing then they found out too late that he fell in an uncovered manhole !

It happened in Wukair  on the eve of Eid -al Fitr !

 In fact  it is very difficult to save someone from a  manhole -  even when  they notice at once that  someone fell into . They are 5 .5 meter deep !

Four years ago another little Indian boy died when walking just some meters ahead of his family . Someone even went down risking his own life  - but the boy fell in coma and later died in hospital .

Another little boy died in the center of Doha  some years ago while his family was dinning -  the little expat  Arab boy fell into an uncovered manhole right in front of the restaurant .

  however for this money the  child can play all day long !

CHI -Shaqab -visiting with a kid - my experience

This was not the first time we visited this international horse riding competition with children . We had nice memories about the entertainment for kids and the modern facility .

This time we were truly disappointed by the Kids Zone activities . As we entered we had to pay QAR50 - and we were told that it includes everything . There were two stages for kids entertainment - we came on Friday afternoon and stayed until the evening but we saw no one performance there . Only kids were jumping around .

It seemed that we had to pay for many things : keeping the falcon for 10 seconds for a photo was 5 rials , Qatari food 5 -10 rials , pony riding - oh no at that place my kid gave up seeing the long line - bouncy castles - yes  it will be real fun  and it would have been free if it  hadn't deflated just as we arrived - the air was leaking and it went totally down -luckily no one was hurt but I heard at that time " Mom let's go home - there is nothing fun to do here " it seemed that it was not our lucky day there .

I managed to persuade him to go to the main building and check out the competition /the buffet and the modern facility .Oh Gosh ! We were not allowed to enter because "it was full" . We were forced to sit at the other side of the arena . The competition was nice and we were and even able to see the practicing riders from really close . But we missed all the modern facility !

Going home by taxi was very difficult . Such a big international event and there was no any kind of public transport arranged ! Not even a small taxi station or a waiting area in the parking !I tried to book taxi from there but the operator did not understand where we were .After one hour we found finally a free taxi . Our feet were aching .

I do not think I will visit this place in the near future again with kids . That is sad because it used to be my children's favorite in Qatar . Perhaps smaller kids enjoyed it more  - I saw little children with beautifully painted face and henna . and riding  the pony happily .But they did not have much thing for a preteen .  And I think this is a serious problem in Qatar  when living with kids here -  preteens and teens just do not have many "fun things to do "  .

 In spite of the heat - and the usual summer exodus large crowds attended the Eid festival today on the first day of Eid -al -Fitr celebrations   . You can expect live entertainment from 6 : 30 pm and fireworks from 9 :30  .

WE had lunch there on Friday . It was full of customers ! The lunch was very tasty but not cheap at all - QR45 for a plate of food - there were beef steaks ,shrimps in tomato sauce and lamb with mashed potato .It was reasonably priced to say the least . Considering the self-service style and that we had to queue  - By the way -this style is unique in Qatar nowadays . We got a rock band playing while we were having our meal . They were Filipino  guys playing old hits . They were OK . When we were leaving we saw the great celebration - a large cake was cut to celebrate the 3 years in Qatar  . Then it was distributed very nicely ,quickly  -four waiters serving the kids .

Happy  Anniversary Ikea ! If only I could forget our sofa bed experience !
It was nearly 2 years ago that expecting a guest to our home we decided to buy a sofa bed . We asked for an assembly team to do it as we had bought previously a desk , and a chest of drawers and it was very difficult job to make it up ! The team arrived just one day before our guest .  They broke a part of  the sofa  - it could not be used but it was the end of the day and the end of the week  -they have the right for a peaceful weekend . They left us with a broken sofa  - and it was quite embarrassing to ask our guest to stay somewhere else until it was fixed . After the weekend they came again changing only the broken part . It looked OK . When we wanted to open it in the evening it turned out -that part the can be pulled to transform the sofa into bed does not work well . It is not attached to the sofa when it is pulled out . So we got a little bed and a sofa . When complained we were promised a team would come to fix it ! Then we never heard about them again !
 That was the story of our sofa bed with Ikea .
We are not skillful  at assembling furniture  but their team is not either ! Too bad !
