Garangao 2025 in Qatar: A Celebration of Tradition and Joy

Garangao, one of Qatar’s most beloved traditions, will take place on the 14th night of Ramadan—March 14, 2025. This cherished mid-Ramadan festival is celebrated with children dressed in colorful traditional attire, singing Garangao songs, and collecting sweets and nuts from neighbors.

This year, Garangao festivities will be held across multiple venues in Qatar, including Lusail Boulevard, Darb el Saai, Umm Salal, Mall of Qatar, Al Rayyan, Mina District, Old Doha Port, Katara Corniche and Amphitheatre, Kids & Toys Department (1st Floor, Printemps Doha, Doha Oasis), The Plaza, Fire Station, and Msheireb Downtown Doha.

Activities expected after iftar:

• Craft stations where children can paint on tote bags
• Children’s Best Dress Contest showcasing traditional attire
• Face painting, henna, and balloon bending
• Puppet show and bubble show (Fire Station)
• Sweets distribution to spread the festive spirit

Garangao is more than just a night of fun—it’s a celebration of Qatari heritage, bringing communities together in joy and unity. As the full moon lights up the sky, Qatar will come alive with the laughter and excitement of children, ensuring this beautiful tradition continues for generations.

Where exactly is this place? The official address is actually the Hamad Port Visitors Center, located in Umm AL-Houl, Qatar. It takes about 40 minutes by car to get there from Doha.

Based on my previous booking experiences, it appears that only online tickets are available and the accepted payment method is limited to credit card transactions. Furthermore, it is essential to make a reservation well in advance.If you are planning to visit on the weekends.

The Hamad Port Visitors Center is a one-of-a-kind structure created specifically to highlight Qatar's maritime heritage and accomplishments. The facility has a maritime museum, a 4D theater, virtual simulators, an auditorium, a kids' play area, and Qatar's first oceanic aquarium.

What do people think about it ?

Those who had complaints about the place mentioned the inconvenient opening hours for families and the only online ticketing possibilities. 
Not working cinema while full price had to be paid. Technical failures with the ticketing were the major issues with this new place in Qatar, according to Google reviews.

Other people had better experiences like :

Kidzania or Kidzmondo - Kids entertainment in Qatar

 Now that the second  theme park opened in Qatar focusing on role play  and educational entertainment  we parents  wonder what are the differences between the two  facilities .

These are my finds :

 Kidzmondo  for children between 2 and 14 years

 kids earn money that can spend there
 80 different professional role play
 simulate a profession and wear uniform for that job
 800 children can play inside
 location  at the Mall of Qatar - very far from most of the  residential area in Doha
   part of a mall  and totally closed area -no windows or sunshine - my personal observation
 no outside food is allowed
 you can buy food inside

  It's headquarters in Lebanon . They have branches in  some Arab countries  and they are going to open more .

 Prices :  for kids between age 1 year to 4  -  QR 90 + parent ticket  QR 90 = QR 180
               for kids between age 4 year to14 - QR  135 +  parent ticket  QR 90 = QR 225
               special needs children  QR 85

Personal notes :   one of my child described it " one of the happiest day of his life "  when at age 9 they visited this park with the school - children adore it , the role play gives them  self-confidence   .  Children can learn about the real life . A lots of kids can not afford this place - sadly ,it reflects  our world !  For us it is a birthday present category . But since our son grew bigger and understands  better the value of the money he refuses us to pay for it . He would be thrilled to go and play  but  at the same time  he does not feel comfortable knowing we have to spend so much .
You can stay all the day long  but after three hours playing  most kids gets exhausted .

             


Kidzania  for children between 4 and 14 years

 they have 27 facilities all over the globe

 Prices :  children under 120 cm must be accompanied by an adult

 My final view :  I think both places  offer wonderful  time for kids . Educational role playing is very important  for learning  and improving fantasy and it also gives emotional satisfaction . The Kidzania is newer in Qatar and not all the section is  open .  It is in Aspire Zone right behind Hyatt Plaza shopping center . Though it is possible to save money when you let your kids above certain age go without your supervision  I do not recommend it .These places are too big for children feel comfortable alone . They may feel lost quickly . And there are other kids . Not all of them are nice . Finally , it is so much better when one can share her experiences at once with a loved one !
