Shopping only with smart phone in Qatar - show you green status on 'Ehteraz App'

Now how do I feel about it ?

 Terrible  .

For many reasons a lots of people may not have a mobile / can not download the app  - it is linked to Qatari ID . Visitors / illegal  workers / people who can not afford a mobile  / people  who can not handle a smart phone  are all excluded from shopping personally now .

For a large crowd in Qatar there is only the online shopping now . It is unpredictable - many supermarket shows " busy " all the day  or you have to wait  the whole day for your grocery would arrive .

Nobody will die of hunger because the small shops " dukhans " deliver quickly - you can order by phone . But their selection of food is poor .  I am sad when thinking about  all this situation here .

Gluten free in Qatar

You can see a lots of products  gluten free in the Megamart if you  have time to browse the shelves . In the French Monoprix the gluten free products are collected in one section so it is easier to find the item you need .
In the Finnish bakery - somewhere between the Villaggio and Zoo -
you can buy gluten free bakery products and cakes - see their menu here  .

you can call : 44661200 for orders

You can buy Far -Eastern products as they are usually rice based .There is a Japanese section in the Megamart supermarket/The  Center  and there is a Korean supermarket in Al-Jazeera street ,Bin Mahmoud .

At the Carluccio restaurant at the Pearl  they prepare gluten -free dishes on request - I read about it the other day when reading their menu .

New Supermarket in the West - Bay

New Supermarket is opening in Qatar  today .Monoprix is a is a major French retail chain .
Its  outlet will be in the West- Bay between the twin Palm Towers also near the Tornado Tower . Will they offer better  prices than Carrefour ?  The French community is puzzled to see if their favorite gourmet food will  have a more affordable price there than at the Carrefour .

A horrifying example  -   a jar of  pickled gerkins  by Amora  costs in the Carrefour 32 QR (almost € 6.5!)

What a luck that I find more reasonable priced pickles at the Megamart  !

The  made in Sri-lanka pickles  in sweet-sour- hot marinade is my favorite one  there ! Very similar to the Hungarian ones .

For more info on Monoprix  in Qatar just visit them on the Facebook !

Update : they are open   from 8 to 10 daily  on Fridays there is prayer time break between 11 h30 and 12
parking : more chance to find parking inside the office building after 5 pm and on holidays
