Do you need a HUGE POSTER to decorate your rooms ,office etc ?
Some of my posters are available in HUGE size 35" x 35 ".
Zazzle posters can be even bigger than that .When browsing posters I saw COLOSSAL SIZE as well .52" x 64"

When buying a poster at Zazzle then always have a look at the print options .First you have to choose the size :portfolio ,small , large , huge ,colossal ?
Not every artwork is available at every size .It is depending on the size of the digital image .
The prints at Zazzle are of excellent quality - brilliant colors , made in UV-resistant archival inks !
After selecting the size you have to choose the media of the poster .You may want a basic poster print or something special . Basic poster prints are appropriate for all types of images and are affordable solutions for everyone !
BRONZE MATTE Paper is more expensive solution and it is recommended for paintings and historical images (such as old maps and lithographs) where a matte finish and archivality are desired.

SILVER GLOSS Print is more costy than bronze matte . It is Particularly suitable for photographs and most digital images, where brilliant colors and archivality are desired.

GOLD MATTE Print is the most expensive paper medium print at Zazzle This ultra-premium paper is a textured, natural-colored, print medium with a matte finish, imprinted with UV-resistant archival inks (100+ years of fade resistance when displayed indoors and protected from direct sunlight) to create vibrant, long-lasting art and photo reproductions.

PLATINUM MATTE Canvas is one of the most expensive way to have the artwork printed .When to choose that option ?
In case you wish to have a vibrant and lasting work of art that can be enjoyed for generations to come.

PLATINUM GLOSS Canvas is Recommended for fine art reproductions such as paintings, digital art and photos where a high-gloss finish and archiving are desired.

Dizzying ? Just opt for a basic poster then you will see the quality .

Mandala in refreshing colors. Ideal at any room or office where more light needed . Available in four different sizes .

MIDDLE EAST IN HUNGARY
HUNGARY IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Some days ago I switched on Al Jazeera Children channel to see my homeland ,Hungary . It was about an Arab family living in the city of Szekszard in the southern part of my country .They were telling about their every days and the little Arab boy 's life . He is a swimming champion .
I like how Al jazeera Children Channel shows the Arab children that there is life for the Arabs even abroad . This was not the first time I saw report on Arab kids in Hungary . Some months ago I remember seeing another one living in Budapest whose hobby was the pigeons .I wish I understood more Arabic to be able to grasp more from these reports !

The very same day I switched on the Hungarian sat channel Duna TV - to see that all the evening was about Tunesia .Tourism , traditions , and interviews with Hungarian -Arab couples living there .

EID AL UMM

Mother's day .It is celebrated on March 21st here . Yesterday my preschooler was so busy with creating gifts for me.Also she wanted to help me a lot .. Finally she cleaned one carrot and washed up five plates .:))
My big child did not care . She might want to celebrate on the first Sunday of May .As it is the custom in Hungary .
My toddler banged her head into my nose with such big force that I nearly fainted . I am still not sure that it is not broken !
All in all -it was a happy day ! :)

My popular birth announcement stamps .

Baby girl postage

Baby boy postage
They seem to be my most popular artwork at my Zazzle shop .
Annoying things in Doha

Taxi drivers : we are waiting with my friend and with our kids .it is evening -it is windy - it was nice in the park but it is time to go home and have a rest .A taxi comes - it stops around ten meters from us -then before we could arrive at it - goes away .
The second taxi stops for us " Where " " we say the address " Not " is the answer and he drives away before we could say a word .
The third taxi stops .We tell him the address : Do you know it ? No .
No problem we will show you the way . We do so .We arrive home -but all the time he was talking and behaving with a stupid superiority on his face .As he did a favor for us . As he was in India in his village .

Accommodationn - the second time within a week the sewage flooded all the street . it was a challenge to our nose and our cars .And the worst : to our flats . The floor started to sink in the middle of the room . "no danger " - I hear from expert since the structure is not sinking .But our cupboards are leaning towards us and the gas cooker as well . telling the truth it has never been totally horizontal - even before the flood . My cakes always got strange shape ...We live in a ten year old building .

The lack of information
The other day one of my Hungarian friend complained to me . " I was at a private clinic with a minor problem : rude doctors , much money , waiting too much .
I was shocked : " Why do not you go to the Health center ? " Then it turned out that she did not know that she has the right to have free consultations and nearly free medicine in case she has a health card . She has been living and working in Qatar for years .She is on a medicine that she needs to take every day -and so far she has payed so much for it every month .She had applied for a card and visited a doctor and was very much happy with that .
I know that the Health Centers are not perfect - but are affordable solution for many of us .
Why nobody explains officially to the newcomers how things are working around here ?
Sympathy Card

MY deepest sympathy to the parents and siblings of this young boy and to every one who loved him and misses him now .

May this tragedy open the eyes of the adult society here : children need more time and more care .Even if they do not show us - and want make us believe they are independent ,big guys .
We should not close our eyes . This is not the first suicide of a young man , in my views many suicide is disguised as road accidents or accidents on the dunes .
Had anyone talked to this guy in time about the ups and downs of life - and how to manage our failures - he would not have ended his dear life ...

A hot line for teenagers is very much needed here in Qatar where the generations of parents are working day and night and grandparents are not given even a visiting visa easily - and their living here is simply impossible .

Action should be made fast before a copycat jump ...before another family's life turns into nightmare .

Saturday, March 14, 2009

This is the ice rink of City center plaza Doha . The talk of the week is the tragedy of a young Arab boy . The other day he jumped to his death from the third floor traumatizing the kids skating there . It is really a miracle that he did not hurt anybody landing on them . This video was uploaded in 2008 -and is showing the beauty of the place .Somehow the song with it is melancholic ... who will be there to catch you if you fall ..

a short summary on the ways of looking for job in Qatar

LOOKING FOR JOB IN QATAR ?

Please leave me alone ! I get too many letters and I have no time ! I do not posses any information on this topic that can not be obtained through the net .Please do not give me homework like " write me the list of hospitals in Qatar " !
I encourage the job seekers to use Google !
And no need to write me long letters about the sad situation at home . I am aware of that . Still I do not see why should I spend my time on searching for information for strangers when they can do it on their own !

Accommodation .No way that I can give anybody ! The laws of Qatar do not let anybody enter the country this way " I will spend some night at the flat of my internet buddy " ! If you arrive as a tourist you must have hotel reservation .

Sorry !

International Women Day

It was marked by several expat organization .There was an article in Gulf Times about life expectancy of Qatari women . It is 77 years . The same as men's life expectancy .Why do not women of Qatar live longer than men ?
My theory : number of birth per woman is high . Many pregnancies can be life shortening factor -though health care is excellent here .
Another theory : man do not drink at least as much as in the West -so it is not shortening their lives .

I do not think it is only Qatar in Arabia where life expectancy of women is nearly the same as men's .It is surprising only when it is compared to women 's of the West .
They like to compare themselves to the Western World .
Did I tell you ? One Qatari called me on their local forum Eastern European trash .I dared criticize them for something . The emphasize was an Eastern .I was laughing so much !!!He did not even think about it ! Compared to them we are the West !

DOUBLE-DECKERS OF QATAR
The much awaited buses arrived in December . It will be for families - it was promised. It started a line all along the Corniche . I wanted a fun ride the other day with my kids . I went to the bus stop .There was nothing written about its arrival . It did not come in fact at all .

Some days later I was riding our car when I saw a double -decker . I felt like crying . Why ? It was full of labourers !JUstlike the other buses !

The idea of providing a decent mean of transport for families was given up ?
Or what ?

Daisies in beautifully arranged collage .Inspired by spring and childhood memories .Alma Wad 's bright artwork has some retro touch .Great for invitations and love letters !

matching postage :

Now that the dust storm is over it's nice and beautiful again . In the mornings when the kids take their school bus -it is a bit chilly .Like the mornings at late August in Hungary .
At the backyard some bird is singing every morning and I listen to this wonderful music while I am loading the clothes to the washing machine !
There's a new park beyond Hyatt plaza and it is fun to take walk there with the kids .
Springlike weather - it is called winter here . Around five the sun sets then it is cold .Women having picnic are throwing a blanket on themselves and they keep chatting and drinking their tea .
After experiencing the gentle warmth of the sun and the chills of the evening my kids fall asleep and they have deep, nice dreams !

P.s. yes mum - I know you had ten bellow zero last night !

So I have been living in Qatar for a while .More than six years . The first 20 months we did not meet a single Hungarian .We felt we are alone .There was no embassy -nothing here to find out if there are other Hungarians living here .
Then we saw two women walking past as we were sitting on the bench .They were talking in Hungarian .It was unbelievable then ! Our eyes were gleaming with tears we ran after them . Since then I have been with my compatriots every now and then . They are coming from different part of the country ,different social background etc .
The Hungarian community is no more than 20 family strong .
Then the other day I got a call from someone who claimed that I used to teach her in Hungary 15 years before .She came to live here with her husband .It was difficult to remember then I simply could not believe . How can it be ! It is still unbelievable to me !

I feel that it is like a great blessing .I find the way to link myself back to our past .Living uprooted here -it is like I get back my roots !

What does it mean to be Hungarian when living in New York ?
That was the topic of a Hungarian documentary on our national sat channel Duna TV .

Old couple left Hungary 25 years ago :

( speaking broken Hungarian )
We do not miss Hungary at all .We were so much fed up with that country !I felt like home at once here in NY !

Middle aged man with a little toddler

I came because i was fed up with the situation ! if you work a lot in the USA you will have a lots of money ! If you work hard in Hungary you will die early !
People in Hungary are jealous ,backward and everything so predictable ! Here everything is new and modern and life is full of surprise !

( then he is singing for his toddler a Hungarian song who is dancing happily )Then he goes on :
Do you think we are happy here ! (Then suddenly his eyes are gleaming with tears )
How many times I ask myself what I am doing here living at the edge of the black slum .
What can I do ?

Smiling bold guy at the central park

i do not remember his words well - but I remember his Hungarian was perfect and he told nothing bad about Hungary except the bad economic situation he mentioned

Teenagers at the top of the Empire State building

It is in Hungary where we wish to live . Where life is natural .Budapest is the city we want in stead of New York . Where you can meet people we know - where we have our buddies where we just take a tram or bus and find ourselves in the deep forest .
Here in New York - all is about money . Most people probably do not have normal social life . Central park - it is so artificial compared to Buda hills !

Sting - the pop singer message to the Hungarians
You can travel nowadays anywhere in the world . So go and see the world for 2 years . Then return ! You got a charming city Budapest !

I was sooo happy to see that the younger generation does not look down at his own homeland ! It was food for my soul ! And those who left before and speak broken Hungarian with full of disdain towards their own country I say : time has changed - you used to act as half -gods when visiting Hungary .When telling stories to people who were not allowed to leave the country .Nowadays you became so passe so ridiculous ! Wake up !

MY AWARD WINING T-SHIRT DESIGN WITH A SWAN

I have got an award Today's Best Award at Zazzle.com the other day .

It is digital painting inspired by childhood memories . I used to see swans I think at the ponds of my hometown right in the town centre . Every time when we had to go there to see a doctor or buy something at the department store we stopped a little bit to see the swans and the watermill's wheel which looked so frightening to me .especially when gypsy kids used to climb on it while it was turning round and round .It was a real wonder for me as a kid and it still amazes me as an adult . I really was born in a very special place . I mean that not every town has a watermill and pond with swans in their center .

Check out my other romantic gifts as well !

Qatar shuts Israeli trade office over Gaza war

ON behalf of the children of Gaza I would like to tell you :

OBAMA WAS SILENT

“Nobody is suffering more than the Palestinian people.” HE TOLD SO 2 YEARS AGO

WHY DID NOT HE REPEAT THESE WORDS WHILE GAZA KIDS WERE MASSACRED ?

( I will delete all my pro obama designs )

To all the child victims of Gaza 2009 !
I saw my mother dying
I saw all my brothers and sisters dead
I tried to rescue my brothers and sisters
I brought some fruit for my brother
My other brother also asked me for some food
So I brought them tomatoes
Then we fell asleep
Then we woke up
I tried to wake them up
But they were all dead

A little boy from Gaza ( around 5-6 years old -he had spent 4 days next to this dead relatives before help arrived )

So the bombs stopped dropping for a while .The people in Gaza have some time to pull out the dead bodies got trapped under the rubble .
Sarkozy and the others I even hate to write their names - the so called Western state men were in a hurry to have lunch or dinner with their good buddy Olmert .
The corpses of the children are still under the rubble .
And they are having dinner together !

Bon apetit !

The Children of Palestine

It is horrible that people of Gaza are being killed by snipers as well as their parents and other siblings. It seems that Palestinian life is not worth much these days. Do we know the names of those killed? Who is keeping a record?

Keep the record, write the history or forever be lost. Care about your neighbors and every human life .

If not be forgotten like the Israeli invasion of 1982.

Billy from USA
Blurb on Gaza

As a human being, I am totaly saddened just to read or hear about what Israel is doing to Gaza. Israelis to take such cruel action against Gaza who are no match to them, how do they feel, happy, glorious, successful or is this a sacrifice they need to make.

My Dear Friends !

I would like to tell you about our sunny days in Doha . I would like to describe how beautiful the weather is - how wonderfully our kids were playing in the park - how great was our weekend when I felt strongly yes I felt our wealth are the kids and the joyful moments we can give them . I would like to tell you all the joy of the springlike weather - but still I am haunted by the images of child victims in Gaza .
That little girl whose face was red totally by the blood .She looked like my little daughter - wearing jeans and pink tee .Just she was dead . And the others - the babies , the teens ...
And there are things that you can not describe , no picture can show you how much these little ones had suffered by the fear and those who are alive still suffering !It is not over .Jews , Buddhist ,Christian ,atheist spoke up against the war on Gaza .But it goes on .
What 's for ? It is not even clear !

BLURB ON GAZA WAR

In our civilized society , any harm to Children is punished severely by the law and is one of the most despicable act someone can do. My heart tears up when i see children in Gaza being slaughtered while the whole world watches without doing noting. I am a pacifist in nature. I do not believe in war. But for the first time in my adult lifetime, I wish i was fighting on the side of the palestinian.

In light of the fighting in Gaza and in Israel, Israeli human rights groups are working together to inform the Israeli public of the impact on civilians, particularly regarding events that are not reported by the media.

Louisa Waugh’s blogs focus on the ups and downs of everyday life, whether in times of bombardment or ceasefire. When the war reporters leave, life goes on – and this blog puts us in amongst it.

Open Letter to Israeli Soldiers: Jews call on Israeli soldiers to stop War Crimes
It's a beautiful day here in Doha . It is around 20 C degree - no wind .Around noon time the park it's full of families , tourists , members of a sport club are taking photographs by the sea
Is it a beautiful time in Gaza as well ? I ask myself . A young men watching sadly in front of himself .
Does he have someone special in Gaza ?
My child is brooding .One of her classmates did not come back from winter holiday .From Gaza .

I read somewhere that the Israeli support this war mainly because they feel very bad over their failure in Lebanon 2 years ago .

Let's see if there is anything to feel all right now : children walking home from school are attacked the very first day of the war , residential areas are being bombed , hundreds of children smashed ,dismembered or bleeding to death .Bombed areas blockaded by the Israeli army for the ambulance can not reach them . Children who survived are crying themselves to death next to their dead parents because nowhere any help .

Snipers ,phosphorus bomb ,depleted uranium ...

Are they feeling really better now ?
Are they sane ?

The Emir of Qatar made a speech live on Al-Jazeera channel the other day . He called the Israeli aggression a war crime .
The present Palestinian government was elected by democratic way by the people of Gaza .
Israel has been punishing the people of Gaza for their choice by blockading food and medicine .And now the war .
The end of the war and the whole crisis should be based on justice .

Will his efforts bring any results ? That is the main question nowadays .

How to make Sashimi ?

A great photo calendar made by a Canadian citizen living in Japan ! It is worth to check it out !

We had this as hors d'oeuvres !
Going to Oshi Sushi restaurant at Eid proved to be a great choice !As it is a new place at the third floor of the Royal plaza we managed to avoid the crowds .Only four five families were having Eid lunch and it was really relaxing there !The music , the beautifully and simply set table , the bento , the sashimi , the miso , the Japanese curry ... all made me feel as I was in Japan ... it was a reaL ESCAPE .
We were using fork and spoon - but also we were trying to use the chopping sticks .The hot, wet towels were meant to clean our hands before and not after eating .I learnt that only later when I was reading more on the Japanese cuisine !
I had the first raw salmon of my life and I survived !

Hungary on Arabic speaking channels : the other day the while we were watching Al- Jazeera children channel -we saw a 15 minute documentary on Hungarian horse riding heritage . All the film was shot in Bugac puszta .I wish they were able to pronounce at least the name of this place ! ( not boo-ghak - but booghats ) Otherwise it was nice .
I do not watch a lots of TV . So I can not mention every occasion when Hungary or Hungarians are on TV around here . There was a documentary on Hungarian ethnic minority The Roma or Gypsy people some six years ago on Al-jazeera . It made me very upset . It spread such lies that " The Hungarians do not let the Roma kids go to school - that is why they needed a grammar School built just for them in Pecs "
The reality is that the Hungarian government , teachers etc beg the Gypsy parents that they send their kids to school . Then I heard such thing from villager Gypsy woman" The Hungarians do not allow me to get potable water - if I am lucky I can drink the water for animals " - and she was pushing the usual blue well - found all over the country in the streets - whose water is drinkable -and used by any villagers who do not have an access to tap water .

I just heard that nowadays on LB EU there is a competition of belly dancers and among a contestants there is a Hungarian girl . I was not surprised as belly dance became very popular form of exercise lately at home .

HUMOR DURING RAMADAN

One may think that there's no laugh during the fasting month here . But the truth is that the Arabic TV channels offer a wide selection of funny TV shows or plays just for this month . It reminds me our New Year's Eve TV shows .
The Qatar TV gives a funny serial made in Kuwait . One can learn a lot about the life of the Arabs nowadays .
The TV play was about marriage in the past and nowadays :
1. scene an oversized wife is having dinner alone - when her well -fed husband arrives it turns out that there's nothing left for him but a cup of tea " say Thanks God " the wife is yelling at her husband - who starts to dream about the " nice old days "
2. scene - the husband dream - he is coming home and a lovely wife is waiting for him offering a tray of delicious food . He is eating alone - it turns out the wife did not have dinner yet " You are my man - how could I eat before you had yourself enough "
-and the touched husband offers some food for his wife who is holding in one hand a flag shaped fan cooling her husband ( that was before the time of AC )

3 . scene of nowadays - the wife is in a boutique shouting at him - because the money she had got for Eid clothes shopping is not enough for her .Quite ashamed he goes to the bank to get more money

4.The wife is in bad mood and shouting at home without reason . The husband asks her to cool down .She gets more furious and wants to call the police - but then rather she calls her family . The husband is terrified " Oh no , all her tribe will come " .
She claims her husband beat her . All the family members came to threaten the husband included the Indian driver and maids and cooks . Nobody listens to him that he is innocent . Finally he is forced to buy a lots of jewels to his wife who " forgives him anyway " but moving home with their sons
5. scene - in the past the man has to go far to find job . The wife is very sad and every day is just talking about her husband while she is having coffee alone . When the husband arrives after two months- it turns out that for some reasons he could not bring any presents to anybody - but the wife is very happy just to see her much beloved husband and doe snot care about presents at all .

Did the life really has changed so much ?

Mid -September Memories

MId- September is the time of harvest festivals all around Hungary .Grapes and paprika harvests are the most popular ones .My mum was last week at her village where she tasted the results of "tripes cooking " competition . Tripes stew in paprika sauce is a popular dish made for great occasions . Paprika harvest is a busy time in South Hungary -all who is able are on the lands to pick the peppers before the chill of nights would destroy the savor .  For the paprika fans : in Qatar you will not find any kind of Hungarian paprika .French paprika is sold instead. They might think that anything from Western Europe is better than from Central Europe .There's a total ignorance here on this spice .So if you are to move to Qatar - you should bring enough paprika with you !

A BOY DID NOT RETURN home from summer vacations .
He had left for England for a five weeks language course .While having his dinner with his friends in a kebab shop he was attacked by a group of drunken youngsters .
he got a punch due to that he got fracture in the skull .Later he died in hospital .
It 's simply terrible !
The kebab shop owner said he had been attacked 25 times since 2005 when he opened his buffet .
Gang attacks are common in England nowadays -I simply do not understand what is going on . This attacks are not necessarily racists - but many times they are .
Anita and me this film showed how just by fun local ,bored teenagers from socially backward families beat to death a Pakistani man waiting for bus
Things are repeating -it seems .

This is one thing .
The other aspect of this case is that some local people feel nowadays entitled to call any ex-pats "racist leech " who dares criticizing the local customs at the local discussion forums.
That is also quite a saddening thing .

WHY CAN'T YOU SEE NICE ELEGANT CARS IN QATAR ? I kept asking myself for longtime .I mean you see a lots of expensive four wheelers but not stylish sport cars . I know the four wheelers are great for the desert trips - but here many families can afford a lots of cars . I think I found the answer -people from Qatar do have elegant cars - just they use them for their European summer vacations .Even they ship them to Europe -even by air . Check out these photos if you want to see some really stylish vehicles . Still ,I do not understand where are these cars when they are at home !

The Zazzle June news letter did not give great information on that topic .Finally I found DT's blog on this topic .it was very well explained and I think I would return there later on -for more info on other topics . Here are my first templates :

Still life in the afternoon

After drinking my tea I am looking out of the window .Doves are flying .Cats are jumping in and out of the garbage can of the street .A pashtu family goes somewhere .A nice looking bus takes the workers home from a nearby construction .Then two men from Nepal are chasing away the cats from the garbage can .They are working very well organized: one of them is looking for the cans of drink -the other is beating them flat by a stone and then collecting them in a bag . Our black garbage bags are opened -they are examining our garbage then choose the cans .Only the cans .They work bare hand .Ten minutes of hard work gives them a bag of metal .
Then they leave .An Indian man is coming with a stick -looking for something he could not find .
The sun is setting .You can hear the call for prayer .

When you look at these snap shots you may think at first glance that they were taken in Europe .
But they are in a mall where they are imitating the Italian architecture .Isn't that miserable? Still it is much beloved and visited place .Like Europe is by the upper ten of Qatar .Yes ,the Arabs adore Europe .

Then there was this dessert pancake with ice cream . Nothing special -you may do better yourself at home .Dulce cafe as well .It is usually packed with Qatari people .Their cook may not know this style of cooking .Otherwise I can not make out what for they are visiting it in large numbers .

That was a chicken salad at the dulce cafe at the Villaggio Mall .We had a coupon booklet in which there was this discount" you buy a main course and you get one more free" .So we had this chicken salad .I like the look of that cafe with their vintage advertisement posters and terrace look -but their salad was very plain .It looks so great -it is served in huge and heavy plates -then when you eat it -then you realize that you can make a tastier one at home .

This cake was one of the best cake I have tasted in Doha .I must say that compared to the Hungarian confectionery here the selection of cakes is poor .This one was really original - not the usual cream sponge cake style .There was a thick base - it was baked with plenty of ricotta -on it there was a thin layer of lemon cream then lemon ice cream at the top .WE had it at the Romano Macaroni Grill at the Villagio Mall .

MY SUMMER READING

Sundays were marred, from the troops point of view by church parades:'Totally unnecessary ,really a matter of showing-off to the native population ."

Living in Qatar I also met h some of my compatriots showing themselves as very much Christians - to show off their superiority over the native Muslims .It's just making one feel sick .
Being far for home must have been very tough before the advent of the internet
" You would race back to your bungalow and read those longed-for letters from home .You lived for that letter day "

The hot season in India was easier than here as there were some Hill Stations to escape .
"It's difficult to convey how enormously romantic the atmosphere was in Simla -warm starlit nights and bright ,huge moon those towering hills and mountains stretching away ,silence and strange ,exotic smells ."
" But for most people these sojourns in the Hills were brief and uneventful .Many wives came down to join their husbands in the plains at the earliest opportunity and without waiting for the rains to end ."

More and more people are planning to come and I get more and more questions about the cost of living here .

These dreamy retro stripes look good on the shoes as well !

Mysteries in Qatar

Last week a tyre ripper attacked in Qatar .He slashed hundreds of cars then the coming night he smashed around ten car's windows .
He was caught - an American citizen -wanting to take revenge on one single motorist - but not quite sure about the car vandalised so many vehicles in two areas .
The other thing is the color of the sea which turned murky in the area of the Corniche .Was it caused by pollution or ground water ? It is not known yet .
Life is full of unexpected things .The other day I woke up and decided to design some wedding buttons when I noticed that new products arrived to the shop .KED shoes .
So I found myself decorating shoes all the day long instead of wedding pins . It was a real joy !

MY SUMMER READING : Plain tales from the Raj -edited by Charles Allen -first publishes in 1975

When reading this book - many times I say to myself .Huh ,just like in Qatar !" We were always meeting the same people .Everyone knew rather too much about every one else ;s affairs and it was a staple topic of conversation - what was going on ,who was going out with who so -and so ."

It was also very interesting to read about how they beat the heat without air -conditioning .

""We talked about shutting out the heat .Hurdles of dried straw called kash -kash tatties were put across the open doors and verandah ,and a man would be kept outside to fling water on them now and again .so that such air as did come into the bungalow was mildly cooled ."
WE never slept indoors in the hot weather ."
" Until the advent of air -conditioning the hot weather had to be suffered like toothache .
When the nights became intolerable we used to wrap ourselves in a wet sheet "
"those forced to travel by train did well to secure a large block of ice so that you could sit with your feet on it until it melted away "
" the only sure way of beating the hot weather entirely was to avoid it . The time -honoured custom of taking refuge in the HIlls persisted till the Second World War ."

As an army brat myself I was giggling when reading that :" wives tended to acquire the rank of their husbands " My mother used to be annoyed by that very much tough it was not in India but in Hungary - but human nature seems to be very similar .

FITNESS IN SUMMER

I am just trying to make some exercises at home .
Apart from the Moroccan bath -which I tried at medical spa - I do not go out anywhere to follow a course though I know very well how much inspiring it is to do exercise in group ..
So I bought this DVD with Lizbeth Garcia .It came in a nice box with a ball .It was a bit challenging to inflate it -as no instruction was given on how to use the pump -but somehow we managed to do it !All the family was happy with the huge ball : the little ones were pushing and bouncing it or leaning on it and relaxing while the bigger ones are using the ball as a chair while sitting at the computer desk .What a nice way to make your muscles work while sitting !
The DVD with Lizbeth Garcia is simply dangerous to follow : it is full of outdated exercises which put too much strain on the neck and gives you headache .The very first exercise was : sit on the ball then while your feet are on the ground lean back - lie on the ball .It is very difficult - and the ball rolls from under you and you might find yourself on the ground very easily !It advertises itself as pilates but in my opinion it is rather a kind of old fashioned aerobics with a ball .Lizbeth hoarse voice makes one feel that an old chain -smoker is trying to teach you on the fitness and the whole thing is very badly shot . My favourite part is when Lizbeth says ' do it for long beautiful ,sexy legs "- then the camera goes on close -up and shows the imperfections of her knees :)) .Not talking about the fact that one can not get long legs if was born with short ones however hard she is working out !
Seeing how disappointed I was : my daughter surprised me with a yoga DVD with Rainbeau March :it is better -it is radiating some kind of spiritual energy though the exercises are concentrating rather for the upper body .It's not for beginners either as it is advertised -but one can feel where to stop when stretching her body .
So I am doing these things nowadays and dreaming about returning to the Moroccan bath .It was at the Villagio Mall 's ,Medical spa and was simply fabulous : tiny little bulbs with slowly changing colors in the ceiling ,with relaxing music ,vapor - some drink in an elegant glass, seeing a beautiful old styled lamp how it is projecting wonderful shadows above me ,lying in four -poster beds ,relaxing while drinks are being served ...
