It is a fine dinning Indian restaurant located at Bin Mahmoud road . It has very strange location as this street is rather famous for the cheap eateries than for the haute cuisine .
We tried the take away service . It was easy to order - the person who took the order was very happy to serve us , was courteous and his English was easy to understand . If you order food often in Doha - like me - then you must know this is not always the case here!
We like the Zaoq restaurant - North Indian style dishes . But it is far - so we were happy to explore this place . We ordered a Rogan Josh - it was explained on the menu what to expect : " Classic boneless cubes of lamb in brown onion curry " We were very much pleased with it . It was 55 rials and a naan was 7 .
Reading the reviews I see that everyone is happy with this place and they mention the friendly staff , the nice atmosphere , the real Mughal taste .

Iftar Dinner at the Mercury Hotel - review
La Brasserie - was the name of the restaurant where we went some days ago . How very strange name for taking a dinner at the end of a fasting day - I thought . Luckily ,most people here do not understand French - then it did not disturb them .
We arrived just on time for the iftar . The receptionist looked on us and without any question he told us where to go . How did he know that we were heading to have dinner ? Did we look so tired and hungry ?
We were seated promptly - fruit juices and water on the table to break the fast . I am great fan of starters and salads . I was very disappointed when I tasted the lentil soup - the adas was cold and the harissa was nearly cold . The salad bar looked mediocre when I noticed the stuffed tomatoes . I have not had this delicacy for so long time ! Not in Qatar ! It was wonderful - the spices and the texture and the presentation in tiny bowls ! The whole thing !
The samosa counter ran out of samosas quickly . My smallest child was yelling " Samosas - I want samosas " - It would have been very embarrassing if he had been the only one - but luckily the restaurant was full of whining kids . So my one was just one of them ! It took the staff around ten minutes to refill the samosa trays . It is not easy to feed so many hungry customers !
There were 5 -6 main courses . I went for beef picatta ! It was cold too - luckily it was tasty even this way - actually I like cold meals - I just expect the soup to be hot or warm at least ! So I went for the beef again as it tasted so good !
There was some fish stew and rosemary lamb on the buffet tables . Vegetarian dish and tandoori chicken as well . I tasted the chicken just out of curiosity . It was excellent - but by that time no more room in my stomach for main dishes .
The dessert table apart from the chocolate fountain was very modest -some tiny cups with mousse or Middle Eastern sweet treats like Ummali or Mohlobiya .I liked their mohlobiya served in tiny cups but it shocked me that they were not able to provide me a dessert spoon . I had to eat from the tiny cup with a regular table spoon !
I know that we came with coupons but somehow organizing this dinner was not so much well done !
Little things do count ! Hot soups ,dessert spoon or providing tea at the end of the meal would not have cost much money - just some effort !
Their waiters and waitresses were nice and helpful - the cook made wonderful dishes but the whole thing missed a conductor -a manager who would have organized the whole event to be flawless !
We had some coffee khalejee style at the end -as there was no tea available and took a family photo at the decorative Ramadan table in the lounge .All in all it was not a bad dinner - I think this will be the thing that we will remember - if we look at the photo after some years !

Thai snack restaurant - debunked myth
I had read so many good things about this restaurant before .On the tripadvisor it had been called the best budget restaurant of Doha . I had high expectations .
At least to eat something tasty ...
The interior of the place was shockingly low level . Very low ceiling with some pink paint and some posters advertising the Thai tourism and large -painted fans .
The guests were strange fellows that one never sees in Doha . I just asked myself where all those people come from .Ethiopians or Americans in large group with one single female with them , old rocker looking Brits , some Far - Eastern people .
Their menu was very large .Illustrated . One dish cost from 20 -35 QR -the large steamed fish around 70 .One soft drink was 5 - home made ice tea 8 .
I asked for chicken noodle soup . It came quickly in a large melamine bowl . It was full of small pieces of chicken which clearly was not cooked in the soup -but looked like leftover chicken torn into small pieces .It was very disgusting -I had to force myself to eat it . It had no taste - I had to season it ...
The kids asked for fried fish - for 30 rials they brought some little pieces of fried Pangasius fish on a very small plate . The children
ate it quickly and they were still very hungry. I ordered two steamed rice for them - they served only one - then later they wanted to make us pay for three .
The curry was also very disappointing - having no taste - some tasteless gravy with very small portion of chicken ...
I am not a connoisseur of the Thai cuisine . But for similar prices I had already had much better meals at the Thai smile
restaurant at Al-Bida park .Sometimes I cook at home yellow curry in Thai style ...I have always thought that it was very amateurish dish - I just cooked chicken/beef cubes in coconut milk and Thai curry mix from the supermarket - but my beginner's tries tasted like gourmet specialty compared to this one.
It was not cheap at all - we payed 200 QR and we were still hungry .Next to us I saw a young Korean looking couple sharing one single noodle soup then payed . This way it might worth it .
I do not recommend this place to anyone . If you wish to have Thai food then rather look for the Thai smile restaurant .At least at the Al-Bida park they had a much better looking interior with tastier dishes and happier service .Now that branch is closed as all the park did close but they have other branches in the city .

Buffet breakfast - Le Notre , Villaggio Mall
Though I was not fascinated by the lunch we had there a year ago - I decided then to try their breakfast . The buffet table's selection were not as big as I expected ...though there were a large selection of cakes - somehow this was not exactly the thing I wished to have for my breakfast .I expected a lots of bakery products , some cereals - but we foud some little croissants and that was all . We were almost disappointed and took some grilled frankfurters and some salads with tiny sandwiches when it turned out that some parts of the breakfast are served for you as it is freshly prepared . In a bowl they served the rolls and bread - which were excellent ... their American coffee was also very good . The selection of drink is only tea or coffee . I expected some freshly made orange juice - but such thing was not included in the price . They served for as an omlette -which was rather a plain thing ,falafel -wonderful and the freshly made fatira stuffed with cheese or vegetables were also five star dish .
As you can notice it was a blend of Arabic and continental morning dishes ...
After all it was not bad - especially if you know what to expect ...The place was half empty - some local families had breakfast there and some western looking ones .. The background music was the jazz hits from 1930's ...The waitresses really were waiting , standing by to take away the plates or to serve you .
You pay 59 QR for that + 12% service charges ...
As not too many places have buffet breakfast in Doha - this place can be called the number one buffet breakfast cafe here ...

Thai Smiles restaurant - Al Bida park
at long last a restaurant at Al Bida park . that was my first thought when I saw Thai Smiles near the mosque of the park .
It is a small place but very much above the standard of other eateries in the park. The interior decor is just my cup of tea , Burgundy walls with some golden floral motifs - it is fine art deco . The waitress is friendly and helpful . The noodles soup is fresh full of things that you would expect from a soup ... spring rolls were OK .We must come back one day to try their main dishes .. It has got excellent reviews and the location is wonderful with the park all around .Just the perfect thing for families with kids .
