Walking in Al Bida Park, Doha – Desert Roses, Palm Trees, and "All You Can Eat"

 I hadn't been to Al Bida Park for a while – it was so nice to greet the trees and the blooms again. It's hot already, though bearable around sunset.

This is the desert rose – a drought-resistant flower. It's popular and beautiful – but be careful: it's poisonous. Keep your pets and kids far away from it.

It was wonderful to greet my favorite trees – the date palms and a few other species. The sky wasn't particularly blue that day, so I gave the photo a little edit to turn it into a postcard-worthy shot.

You wouldn't expect to find an 'all you can eat' spot inside a peaceful park – but there it was. 35 riyals. Small, simple, and packed with lexpats from Asia who know the deal. A group of young Filipino women were carefully stacking skewers on their plates. I asked what they were doing. 'Raw meat with different spices,' they explained. 'We pack them on our plate, and they grill it for us. We can come back for more – but waste is not allowed.' Honestly? That last rule made me love the place even more.

The large, open spaces of Al Bida are what keep me coming back. No skyscrapers looming over you. No traffic noise. Just sky, palms, and room to breathe. A perfect escape from the concrete jungle

I used to visit this park a lot with my little kids . Then my kids grew and the park was closed down some years ago . It is going to be the part of  a bigger park project . It is surrounded with a fence now  and what I could see from it when I passed by car - a lots of sand  and  hills of soil . Nothing remained from the park of our little kids childhood . Only our  memories and this photo .
Parks in the Middle East has spiritual symbols , the number four  and eight in the geometric shapes , the water surfaces ,ponds and  canals all reflect  the Quranic description of heaven .

Avoid Rumeilah/ Al-Bida Park

  I took my child for riding his little bike Friday night to the Rumeilah /Al-Bida park .
   It was full of people as usual - but it was like a nightmare .
No playgorund at all . It vanished . Around the lake missing fences / at the top of the hills -missing fences . Every toilet closed . Two buffets are still open but the Thai smile restaurant closed down ...
Kids can fall into the lake and  die =kids can fall off the higher areas onto concrets - kids are peeing around ...

 Later I found a notice that the park is under maintenance .
At other place I found an article that it is closed officially . 

 Why people are not warned ? How people with small kids are allowed to enter  when  all the area is full of hazardous objects ! How the  buffets are allowed to be open when the toilets are all closed !

Thai Smiles restaurant - Al Bida park

at long last a restaurant at Al Bida park . that was my first thought when I saw Thai Smiles near the mosque of the park .
It is a small place but very much above the standard of other eateries in the park. The interior decor is just my cup of tea , Burgundy walls with some golden floral motifs - it is fine art deco . The waitress is friendly and helpful . The noodles soup is fresh full of things that you would expect from a soup ... spring rolls were OK .We must come back one day to try their main dishes .. It has got excellent reviews and the location is wonderful with the park all around .Just the perfect thing for families with kids .
