Weather forecast for sports day 2024

Have you made any plans for sports day yet? This local daily paper provides comprehensive information about various locations and activities.

Dinner in the sky - QIFF 2024

Tickets are available from  QAR190  to QAR 499 per person .

Check out  their website .

You can indulge in a luxurious high-tea, savor a delightful 3-course dinner, and enjoy late evening snacks and drinks while floating in their open cabin 40 meters high.

The longest queue I saw at the Food Festival - QIFF 2024

was in front of some brisket restaurant'stall . Is their popularirty has something to do with a popular American sitcom ? I'm not sure.

They have reasonable prices. To determine whether it was worthwhile, all you have to do is wait.

Must-try desserts at the Food Festival - QIFF 2024

 1 .Japanese Cheesecake

I'm a huge fan of Japanese cheese cakes .This one was absolutely brilliant. A delightful treat that won't spike your blood sugar but still satisfies your sweet tooth. This dessert strikes the perfect balance between sweetness and creaminess, just the way I like it.

Yamanote atelier proudly presents their festival contribution.

2 .  The Omani  Halwa

The Omani Halwa is known for its stickiness and intense sweetness. It's a popular treat that is typically enjoyed in small portions. The taste has a certain enchanting Middle Eastern charm that takes me back to ancient times to the tales of the Arabian nights.I bet even princes like Badr el budur used to savor this delightful treat.
It is a must . It came in pretty ceramic pots for QAR25 .
We had it at home with some ginger coffee .Just a couple of spoonfuls if you're watching your waistline.

Brought to the Food festival by Al gahteeb halwa makers from the Nizwa Central Souq

3 . Um Ali at Sheraton Stall

The Hotel Sheraton's food festival stall had a single, exclusive dish on offer.
For QAR 29 for " the most delightful Um Ali in Qatar". I guess they got this title from a review site on the net .
Next time I go to the festival I might try it .
If you find yourself at the festival and haven't experienced this delightful Egyptian twist on bread and butter pudding, give it a try!

memories of my childhood - a nice winter day

There were many pleasant winter days during my early childhood in 1960s Hungary.

Yet one particular day stands out in my memory, rich with small, vivid details.

It was January, snowy and bright. One evening, my mother prepared a delicious fish jelly. She carefully poured the clear soup into small dishes and placed them near the window to cool.

I was absolutely thrilled. I waited patiently for the liquid to turn solid, checking the dishes every ten minutes. My excitement amused my mother.

“Not today, my friend,” she smiled. “Tomorrow’s lunch will be a surprise — jelly.”

I went to bed earlier than usual. Before I knew it, I was jolted awake by the sound of guests arriving. From the other room came the cheerful, animated voices of adults. It was late at night, and the air buzzed with excitement.

“Guess what?” my father burst into my room. “Your mom’s friend and her husband just had a new baby! Time to wake up and greet the newcomer!”

I was not in the mood. My father gently picked me up and carried me to the living room — and suddenly, I had a terrible tantrum. I kicked and screamed, demanding to be taken back to bed.

Everyone was shocked. So was I. I didn’t understand my own reaction.

The next morning, I expected some kind of punishment.
Instead, my mother said quietly, with a hint of sadness, “You made my friend very sad. You were tired and not quite yourself.”

Then she added, “Get dressed. We’re going to visit her and the baby. No kindergarten today — but you will have to apologize.”

I was secretly happy to stay home with my mother and my six-month-old brother. It was cozy and warm inside. But going out was even better.

Our compound was near a forest, a calm and peaceful place. That morning was bright and clear. Snow and sunshine combined with crisp, fresh air — it felt majestic.

My apology was accepted. I was given biscuits and a hot drink. The adults talked about grown-up things while I played with the babies. We placed them side by side in the crib. They were fascinated by each other, happily “talking” in their baby language.

Every now and then, my mother would say, “Imagine — they were born just days apart!”

I didn’t think much about it then. I was only four and a half years old.
I only remember feeling happy for my little brother. He was just six months old, and he already had a friend — a lovely, cheerful baby girl.

Afterwards, we walked home through the snowy wonderland.
For lunch, we finally had the jelly.

The day was gentle and unhurried. I still remember its small nuances, and they warm my heart even now.

Prologue

The babies grew up and became close friends — but not forever. When they were four, my father got a new job, and we had to move far away. The friendship slowly dissolved.

As an adult, I learned more about that night when the baby was brought home. It had been an adoption from a foster home. The process was meant to be long and complicated, but while the director was on vacation, the deputy director approved everything quickly.

That winter night carried more meaning than I ever knew.

Some Expo 2023 photographs from Qatar's Japanese Pavilion

The Japanese pavilion had the perfect aesthetic for a Flower expo, truly living up to expectations.Charming floral arrangement demonstrations were scheduled for 7 pm.

They impressively demonstrated their knack for arranging flowers to the visitors. We crafted our own unique ikebanas in the end.Everyone was participating by bringing a single flower. It was quite an enjoyable experience. They graciously presented us with four exquisite ikebanas. The winners were determined in a rather unconventional manner, through a game.Rock, paper, scissors.

Japanese have a deep appreciation for flowers and they have playful nature. I must say, I quite enjoy that. Thank you for the enjoyable time .

MoPH advice about the dengue fever

MoPH said that new and different kinds of mosquitoes have been found in Qatar that might be able to spread the dengue fever virus and told people to be careful.

Dengue fever is a virus that people get from being bitten by a mosquito.

Its name is Aedes Aegypti, and it carries the virus.

not spread from person to person and is not contagious .

From what I've seen over the last 20 years, there aren't many mosquitoes in the city, even when it's not very hot. But there may be more of them than I think in rural places, especially where water doesn't move.

The good news is that even if an infected mosquito bites you, you won't get sick. Most likely, you'll just feel like you have the flu. A lot of people have pain behind their eyes.
However, there is a small group of affected people who get really sick. It can lead to nose, gum, or even internal bleeding, which is much worse.Babies, weak people, and people who already had this fever are at risk.

wish you were here -my dad a war survivor as a little child

I wish you were here.  My dad ! You were  a war survivor as a little child, and it breaks my heart to think about the pain and trauma you must have endured during those dark times. You were only six, a first grader in1945, when the fightings started.

You were forced to go underground to escape the relentless bombardments.

It took an agonizingly long time, and  you were barely clinging to life when the fighting finally came to an end. Your body was ravaged by frost bites, leaving you in excruciating pain and despair.

Then you were fortunate enough to have survived.

You were left with a well-masked but profound melancholy and certain phobias, such as a dread of crowds, closed spaces, and hospitals, as a result of the emotional effect that never went away.

Years of bed wetting and speech difficulties... only became  less problematic by the age of 15. That was the age when you started to smoke. A chain smoker for decades, trapped in the clutches of addiction.  To live up to 75 was a real miracle  for a chain  smoker  - as you kept whispering in the final months of your life.

Your siblings  who were  not smokers  are still alive .They are nearly 90  !
