New Salata park 2024

The New Salata Park in Doha is a cozy, family-friendly oasis nestled in the New Salata area. Though small, it offers a safe, fenced environment with guards, a few resident cats, and lush greenery that brings life to the space. One unique advantage is its slightly lower humidity during summer months compared to areas closer to the sea, making it a bit more comfortable even on Doha’s hottest days.

The park features charming gazebos for shaded relaxation, a well-maintained playground, and gentle, sloping hills that are perfect for little ones to roll, ride their trikes, or simply run up and down. Parents have observed that this natural playtime setting can stimulate speech in some toddlers—a concept supported by early childhood development experts, and something that has worked for many families.

While the park does have basic restroom facilities, it lacks a buffet or food vendors. However, 03 Mall is just a 10-minute walk away. Located on Al Shagub Street, it offers a 24-hour SPAR supermarket, cafes, restaurants, and various retail outlets, perfect for grabbing snacks and refreshments.

Additionally, for families interested in educational activities, the Skills Development Centre is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from the park. It offers a variety of courses to engage children and support their learning journey.

Park Hours: The park is open daily from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, allowing visitors to enjoy its amenities throughout the day and into the evening.

Parks in qatar 2024 no 1 - Al Bidda Park

The refreshing weather in Doha is perfect for enjoying the outdoors, and Al Bidda Park is a wonderful spot for this! Nestled between the Gulf Interchange and stretching through central Doha, it’s an inviting escape filled with open spaces, shaded areas, and walking paths. Over the past week, I’ve explored it from different angles, with most of my visits starting from the Gulf Interchange, leading straight into the park’s heart.

The good news? If you’re approaching from Al Sadd or Bin Mahmoud, reaching the park is straightforward and safe. The pedestrian bridge over the Alkhaleej street makes crossing easy, and the traffic lights are fully functional, helping drivers respect pedestrian crossings—a small but impactful addition to the urban life.

Unfortunately, the pedestrian bridge's lift is currently out of service, which can be an inconvenience for those needing accessibility support. Still, Al Bidda Park remains a serene, green escape with just a few hurdles along the way!

4,000 kids - Afternoon School Shifts in Doha: A Solution with Challenges

In response to the high demand for school admissions, several CBSE schools in Qatar, like MES and Doha Modern Indian School, have introduced afternoon shifts for KG1 to Grade 8 students. This move offers good news for 4,000 children who were previously out of school, now giving them a chance to secure a place in these schools.

Afternoon classes will run from 1 PM to 6 PM, while morning shifts remain unchanged. However, while this is a relief for families who struggled to find spots for their children, many parents are concerned about the impact on younger children, particularly kindergarteners who still need nap time and a stable daily routine.

I myself had afternoon shifts during my elementary school years, and it’s not a fond memory. It felt disruptive, and I wonder how today’s young learners in Qatar, especially the youngest ones, will manage. While this provides a great opportunity for children who had no place in school, there is still concern over whether such a schedule is beneficial for younger students. What do you think? Will this shift bring more positives or challenges for the children in Qatar?

Sleeping is good - improving work-life balance in Qatar

Sleeping is good—sleeping is necessary. A good sleep can work wonders. It can eliminate bad moods, dark thoughts, and make everyone around you happier. What were the Qatari authorities thinking when they decided that government employees can sleep more? That they can arrive late by up to 7 hours a month without any explanation? Was it because recent statistics showed that Qatar’s sleeping habits are very poor? That we are one of the most sleep-deprived countries in the world? And if the experiment is successful, will it extend to other employees as well?"

WWII bomb explodes in Japan

On October 2, 2024, an unexploded World War II bomb detonated at Miyazaki Airport in southwestern Japan.Fortunately, no one was injured, though over 80 flights were canceled, affecting travel between Miyazaki and major cities like Tokyo and Osaka. This incident highlights Japan's ongoing challenge with unearthed bombs from the war .

__________________________________________________________________________________
After 79 years, incidents involving unexploded ordnance remain commonplace. Fortunately, many of these devices do not detonate. However, as recent events show, the risk still exists

On the  same  day a report was received by the Hungarian Armed Forces bomb disposal unit regarding the discovery of a suspected explosive device during the demolition of the embankment of the railway bridge crossing Soroksári Road in Budapest's IX district. Successful reunification of 14 children with their families Qatar's

________________________

I found   this  post on the X account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar . They are proud to announce the successful reunification of 14 children with their families in Ukraine and Russia, a testament to Qatar's ongoing humanitarian diplomacy. Qatar has played a vital mediating role in various international conflicts, leveraging its neutrality and diplomatic ties. This reunification effort, made possible through cooperation from both Ukraine and Russia, underscores Qatar’s commitment to conflict resolution and the protection of children in war zones. Such initiatives are critical as thousands of children have been displaced by the war. They remain committed to prioritizing the well-being of children affected by conflict and are extremely happy for the families reunited through these efforts.

Visit to the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum in Doha

We had been here before, but this time we received an invitation for a guided tour. We paid the participation fee and were not disappointed. Our local guide was very knowledgeable, and the experience was incredibly interesting this way!

The Sports Museum showcases Qatar's sports history and the global sports culture in a unique way. During the guided tour, we not only saw the exhibits but also gained deeper insight into the history of the objects and the development of sports in Qatar. Such visits are always more special when a local expert shares the background, as they enrich the experience with their personal knowledge and insights.

Even the teenage tennis portrait of the Emir was on display, which we hadn’t noticed on our own before.

We even got to sit in the BeIN Sports channel's newsreader room and read sports news.It was  fun .

My only complaint was that there were no materials related to Hungary.I think the Golden Team of soccer would have definitely deserved a photo...

dead whale in the Hamad Port basin

_____________________________________________________

Why did the great whale stray so far from its cool home?

Did the warm seas confuse its path, or was it searching for something lost?

Was it sick or hurt, drifting on the tides, carried by currents it could not fight?

Or is it a sign of a changing world, where even the deep oceans feel the heat?

The whale’s silent journey reminds us how all life is connected,

From the coldest waters to the warmest shores.

Shift System at an Overcrowded School in Doha – Is This a Good Idea?

Birla Public School, an Indian community school in Doha, seems to have welcomed more students than it can comfortably manage. So much so, that the management suddenly decided to shift some students’ classes to a later time, starting at 9:30 AM. But is this really the best solution? It’s September, and the heat is still relentless. Imagine waiting around in the morning sun at 9:30 for the bus! The usual 7:15 AM start has been pushed back. What does a child do with those extra hours?

And what about the parents? Do they juggle their work schedule around this new change? Does anyone consider how inconvenient this might be for working families?

It takes me back to my school days in Hungary in the 1970s, during the peak of a baby boom. Schools overflowed with students, and we had no choice but to rotate between morning and afternoon shifts every two months. We, the 8 or 9-year-olds, felt the weight of it most. Was it fair to us? We hardly saw our friends, barely spent time with family, and the mornings dragged on with only ourselves for company.

Isn't it strange how times have changed in Europe, where too many children is but a distant memory? Yet in India, it seems history repeats itself. Have we learned nothing, or are we all still caught in the same dance, parents and management alike, just trying to make it work?

_____________________________

Palestine will participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking its fourth appearance since its debut in 1996. Palestinian athletes have competed in sports such as athletics, judo, and swimming. Their participation often faces challenges due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, affecting training and travel. Limited resources and infrastructure also impact their preparation. Despite these difficulties, Palestine aims to showcase its athletes and improve performance in Paris 2024. Specific competitors and their events will be confirmed closer to the Games, reflecting ongoing efforts to gain international recognition and support.

The oldest song in the world "Hurri Hymn."

The "Hurrian Hymn" refers to a piece of music from ancient Mesopotamia, specifically from the Hurrian civilization. It is considered one of the oldest known pieces of written music in the world. The most famous of these is the "Hurrian Hymn No. 6," which was discovered in the ancient city of Ugarit (modern-day Ras Shamra, Syria) and dates back to around 1400 BCE.

The hymn was written on a clay tablet in the Hurrian language using the cuneiform script and includes musical notation. It is dedicated to the goddess Nikkal, the goddess of orchards and fruit. The tablet also includes instructions for tuning a lyre, an ancient stringed musical instrument, which suggests that the hymn was meant to be performed with this instrument.

The significance of the Hurrian Hymn lies in its age and its contribution to our understanding of the early development of music and musical notation. It provides valuable insights into the musical culture of the ancient Near East.

do not give your banking or personal and financial information by phone - MOI warns

he Ministry of Interior in Qatar has issued an important warning to protect everyone from cyber crimes. Scammers are becoming more active and are using sophisticated methods to trick people into giving away personal and financial information. It is crucial to stay alert and not fall victim to these scams.

Key Points to Remember

Do Not Respond to Unknown Messages and Calls:

If you receive a message or call from an unknown source asking for personal or financial information, do not respond. Scammers often pose as officials from banks, police, or other authorities to gain your trust.

Scammers Are Getting More Informed:

Scammers nowadays have more information about their potential victims. They might know your name, address, or even some details about your life. This can make their claims seem more convincing, but do not be fooled.

Common Tactics Used by Scammers:

Impersonation: Scammers may pretend to be from the police, secret services, banks, or insurance companies.

Threats: They might threaten you with jail, freezing your bank accounts, or canceling your insurance if you do not cooperate.

Urgency: They often create a sense of urgency to make you act quickly without thinking.

Never Share Personal or Banking Information:

No matter what the caller or sender claims, never share your personal details, banking information, passwords, or any other sensitive data over the phone or email.

Legitimate organizations will never ask for such information in this manner.

Recognize the Signs of a Scam:

Unexpected Contact: Be suspicious of unsolicited calls, messages, or emails.

Pressure Tactics: Scammers often use high-pressure tactics to rush you into making a decision.

Too Good to Be True Offers: If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Requests for Personal Information: Be wary of any request for your personal or financial details.

What to Do if You Encounter a Scam:

Do Not Engage: Do not respond to or engage with the scammer.

Report the Scam: Immediately report any suspicious activity to the police. This can help prevent others from falling victim to the same scam.

Protect Your Information: If you have shared any information, contact your bank or relevant institution immediately to secure your accounts.

Your safety and security depend on your vigilance. Always remember, legitimate organizations will never ask for personal or financial information through phone calls or emails.
