Qatar is famous for heat — but it also has cold records.

The lowest temperature ever recorded in Qatar dropped to about 1.5°C during a rare winter cold spell. It was  in   in February 2017  This happened inland, away from the coast, where desert nights cool very fast.

  • .8 °C — 1964: The previous historic low recorded in Mesaieed before the 2017 record.

  • 4 °C — 2025: A very cold winter morning in Abu Samra, one of the lowest that season.

  • 6 °C — 2026: Mesaieed logged a chilly low at the start of January.

  • On some winter mornings, temperatures can fall to 5–8°C, which feels cold in a country built for heat. Shops suddenly sell coats, socks, heaters, and blankets, and people change their daily habits.

These cold days don’t last long, but they surprise everyone.
Even in the desert, Qatar can get cold — just quietly.

    Cold weather is coming tonight

Winter is here . In the Southern part of the country the mercury drops under 10 C -while in other parts the expected temperature is between 12 -15 C at night .
The weather is as it is expected at this time of the year . 22 -25 C  around Xmas at day times -and strong winds  bringing dust may disturb the visibility ...
Drive safely  and enjoy the winter  !

    Winter in Qatar 2014

Nights are turning colder and colder .On the BBC weather I have read   values as low as 10 C .For the coming days we can expect rain ,storms , thunders etc .Today it was cloudy but the air was nice and fresh in the early afternoon on the Corniche .However lots of little birds were flying nervously from trees to trees .There were some rather small ones with black heads and black and white tails I have never seen
    before .

It is time to get some warm clothes and try that heater !Count the blankets ,luckily caps and blankets are available at low prices at the supermarkets.I hope that nobody gets cold here .
My kids fall asleep easier than ever after  a two hours playground on the  seaside . The blessing of the fresh air !

    how to make karak

This cold  windy weather  calls for a  hot drink ! Karak is a kind of spicy oriental tea  which is very popular in Qatar

It is  always sweet  and comes with milk .

Basically it is  strong tea cooked with cardamom seeds and  sugar   then creamy milk added

     Recipe : 1  boil water
2 add loose  tea ( Wizza  tea is preferred by the locals)  1  teaspoonful/cup
3 add cardamom seeds and  sugar accordng to your taste  keep boiling them for some minutes
4 pour   it  into  cups and let it set for some minutes
5finally add some creamy  milk ( rainbow  milk is preferred by many )
the tea -milk proportion is also a question of taste

the result is a velvety /smooth  hot drink with spicy oriental touch

there is  a simple way  to get your karak   - simply make strong tea then add the canned tea-milk which is already flavoured with  cardamom seeds

I this your cup of tea ?
