Using overhead cameras and sensors, the software in the checkout-free stores automatically identifies the items picked up or returned and creates a virtual shopping cart for each shopper. The customer can place the items in their pocket, bag, purse, or simply carry them, and the software will charge the cost of the purchased items directly from the customer's credit card as soon as they leave the store. Customers' time spent purchasing a drink or snack will be reduced from minutes to seconds.
