Hungarian official met the foreign minister of Qatar

🇭🇺 Kövér Visits Qatar... But Where’s Our Túró Rudi and Fornetti!? 🥐

As a Hungarian, I can’t help but wonder:
Why is Hungary’s Speaker of Parliament, László Kövér, visiting Qatar and meeting with the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister?

💼 Was it about energy? LNG deals from Qatar?
💸 Tourism and investment?
🗺️ Or global issues like Palestine, migration, and Islamophobia in Europe?

Well, great. Important stuff.

But here’s the real diplomatic tragedy:
Political big shots keep flying in and out, shaking hands and posing for the cameras — yet somehow, no Túró Rudi or Fornetti makes it through customs!?

Expat Hungarians Are Suffering... Without Túró Rudi! 😩

There are thousands of Hungarians living in Qatar and across the Gulf. And two humble items could bring instant joy to their  souls:

🇭🇺 1. Túró Rudi
That sweet curd filling wrapped in chocolate — it’s not a snack, it’s an identity.
Airfreight it. Refrigerate it. Just get it here.

🥐 2. Fornetti
Those divine, flaky, mini pastries that whisper home.
Qatar loves bakeries. One little Hungarian corner in Lulu or Carrefour wouldn’t hurt!

✈️ Bring Túró Rudi and Fornetti to Doha!

Make us feel that diplomacy actually delivers!

Qatari Magyarok Demand Túró Rudi & Fornetti!

“If London has it, so should Doha.”

🧊☀️ 6 Quick Drink RECIPES for Roasty Days - DIY

You got it! 🏖️ Here's the ultimate “Cool Me Down” drink menu — a mix of fast, fresh, and funky options for when the heat is clinging like your clothes after a sauna walk. 😅👕🔥

1. 🍓🍉 Fruity Refresher (OG Classic)

aka “Tropical Breeze in a Cup”

  • 1 cup cold water

  • Juice of ½ lemon 🍋

  • 2 tbsp crushed fresh fruit (strawberry, watermelon, pineapple – your fruity fighters) 🍍🍓🍉

  • 1 tsp honey/sugar 🍯

  • Pinch of salt 🧂

  • Optional mint 🌿 & ice cubes 🧊

Tastes like: Summer vacation in your mouth 🌴💦

2.  Fizzy Cooler

aka “Sassy Cucumber Sparkle”

  • ½ cup still water

  • Juice of ½ lime or lemon

  • 1 tsp honey/sugar

  • Slices of cucumber 🥒 + mint 🌿

  • Pinch of salt

  • Ice cubes (the more the merrier!) 🧊

Tastes like: What James Bond would drink in a heatwave 😎🍸

3. 🥥🌴 Coconut Chiller

aka “Island Vibes, No Plane Ticket”

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chilled coconut water

  • Juice of ½ lime

  • A tiny pinch of salt

  • Optional: 1 tsp honey for a sweeter sip 🍯

  • Ice + a cheeky paper umbrella if you’re fancy 🌂

Tastes like: A hammock between two palm trees 🥥😌

4. 🧃🫐 Super Juice Speedster

aka “Too Hot to Think, Grab the Juice”

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup of any 100% fruit juice (grape, apple, pomegranate)

  • ¼ cup cold water

  • Pinch of salt

  • A few ice cubes

  • Splash of lemon if it’s too sweet 🍋

Tastes like: Fast fix, fruity punch to the face (in a good way!) 🥊🍇

5. 🥛🥭 Yogurt Lassi Chill

aka “Cooling Down Like a Desert Camel”

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup plain yogurt

  • ½ cup cold water

  • 2 tbsp fruit (mango or berries = top tier)

  • 1 tsp sugar or honey

  • Pinch of salt (trust the balance!)

  • Blend or shake well, add ice 🧊

Tastes like: Your belly saying "Ahhhh…" with every sip 🐪💫

6. 🌱🖤 Chia Detox Cooler

aka “Hydration for Health Queens & Kings” 👑💧

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cold water

  • 1 tsp chia seeds (let them sit for 10–15 min)

  • Juice of ½ lemon or orange

  • 1 tsp honey

  • Ice cubes

  • Optional: mint & sliced cucumber

Tastes like: Smooth hydration + tiny jelly boings inside 🥄✨

✨ Bonus Tips to Beat the Heat:

  • Always add a pinch of salt after sweating a lot — helps replenish electrolytes 💪

  • Serve your drink in a frozen mug ❄️🍺

  • Add a joke on the glass with a marker like:
🥤 “If I melt, call for backup.”

🍓🌿 Cool Me Down Quick – Ways to Chill 🧊🥤

After walking in the heat, your body needs quick hydration, electrolyte replacement, and cooling refreshment. Here are  some quick and easy homemade drinks to help with that . Great natural alternatives to commercial sports drinks, which often have too much sugar and artificial additives !

🥤 Quick Rehydration Drink (DIY Electrolyte Refresher)

🔹 Ingredients:

  • 1 glass of cold water (250–300 ml)

  • A pinch of salt (sea salt or Himalayan is best)

  • 1–2 teaspoons of honey or sugar

  • Juice of half a lemon or lime

  • Optional: a few mint leaves or a splash of orange juice

🌀 Instructions:

  1. Mix everything in a glass.

  2. Stir well until the honey/sugar and salt dissolve.

  3. Add ice cubes if you want it colder.

  4. Sip slowly — not all at once — to allow better absorption.

🥒 Bonus Cooling Option:

Cucumber Mint Water

  • Slice half a cucumber + a few mint leaves + cold water + optional lemon slices.

  • Let it sit for a few minutes — very refreshing and anti-inflammatory.

Or  you might  prefer something fruity, spicy, or caffeine-free!

🧊 1. Fruity Refresher 🍓🍍 (a.k.a. “Tropical Breeze in a Cup”)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cold water

  • Juice of half a lemon 🍋

  • 2 tbsp crushed fresh fruit (like strawberries, pineapple, or watermelon) 🍉🍍🍓

  • 1 tsp honey or sugar

  • A pinch of salt 🧂 (yes, trust the science!)

  • Optional: a sprig of mint 🌿

  • Ice cubes to the top

Directions:
Toss it all in, stir like you’re making magic, and sip slow like a lizard on vacation 🦎🍹.

💡 Shortcut: No fresh fruit? Use 100% juice — just a splash!

💥 2. Fizzy Cooler 🍋🫧 (a.k.a. “Bubbly Brain Reviver”)

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sparkling water 🫧

  • 1/2 cup cold plain water

  • Juice of half a lime or lemon

  • 1 tsp honey or sugar

  • Tiny pinch of salt

  • Few slices of cucumber or mint leaves

  • Ice cubes for drama 🧊

Directions:
Stir gently (don’t kill the bubbles), clink your glass like royalty, and sip like you’ve never been sweaty 😌👑

😎🌡️ Little Extras for Both Versions:

  • Add ginger powder or a sliver of fresh ginger if you want a spicy kick 🥵🌶️ (but only if you're bold like that)

  • Serve in your fanciest glass — because hydration deserves style 💅

🔥 Record Heat Hits Al Ain While Doha Stays Cooler at 42°C ☀️🌴

While the ancient oasis town of Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates was boiling over with a record-breaking 🔥 51.6°C on Saturday, 🌆 Doha managed to keep its cool — relatively speaking — at 🌡️ 42°C.

🌴 Al Ain, famous for its lush palm groves and rugged 🏞️ Hajar Mountains, is typically a place to escape the heat. Locals often head for the hills to cool down in higher altitudes like Jebel Hafeet. But this kind of scorching temperature is out of the ordinary for May — a real wake-up call for what summer may bring.

Meanwhile, in Doha, though the mercury rose, the heat didn’t quite hit the roof. The 9-degree difference between the two cities shows how heatwaves can strike differently across the region, even within the same desert climate.

Vivaldi , Candlelight - The Hungarian Quartet at MIA

I just read about this and had to share – one of my personal favorites is coming back to Doha! 🎻 Candlelight: Featuring Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and More is happening on Thursday, May 29th and Friday, May 30th  in the Museum of Islamic Art Auditorium. If you love classical music or simply enjoy unique experiences, this one’s a must.

Imagine Vivaldi’s Four Seasons played live by the incredible Hungarian Quartet, all under the soft glow of candlelight – total magic. ✨ The venue itself is breathtaking, and the atmosphere is intimate and peaceful. It’s perfect for a couple's night, a solo treat, or a special evening with friends.

🎟️ Tickets start at QAR 250, and you can grab yours online—just don’t wait too long, these shows usually sell out fast. For Doha’s classical music lovers (and anyone needing a little beauty in their week), this is one you won’t want to miss.

A Gentle Giant Lost: Dugong's Death Highlights Marine Dangers

In cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality 🏛️, represented by Al Wakra Municipality 🏖️, a dead dugong (sea cow) 🐋 that was entangled in a fishing net 🎣 was recovered on the beach of the Old Al Wakra Market.

The specialized teams from the Ministry 🚛 transported it to the Sealine area 🏝️ to take the necessary samples 🧪 and conduct relevant scientific studies 📊 to support efforts to protect this type of marine creature 🐾. It was then buried 🪦 according to the applicable environmental procedures 🌱. The Ministry also called on fishermen 🎣 and sea-goers 🚤 not to leave abandoned nets 🪢, as they pose a danger ⚠️ to marine life 🌊 and may lead to their death 💀

What's the best time to visit the book fair?

The 34th Doha International Book Fair is currently taking place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) and will run until May 17, 2025. The fair is open daily from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with Friday hours from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

To make the most of your visit, consider the following tips:

  • Weekday Mornings (Monday to Thursday, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM): These times are typically less crowded, allowing for a more relaxed browsing experience.

  • Afternoons (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM): Ideal for attending scheduled talks, workshops, and cultural events. Check the fair's official schedule for specific event timings.

  • Evenings (after 6:00 PM): Expect larger crowds as families and working professionals visit after hours. This time is lively and offers a vibrant atmosphere.

  • Fridays (3:00 PM – 10:00 PM): Being the weekend, Fridays tend to be busier throughout the day. If you prefer a quieter experience, consider visiting earlier in the week.

Remember, entry to the fair is free, and with over 522 publishers from 43 countries participating, there's a vast array of books and cultural experiences to explore.

Polish Days at Lulu Hypers - until May 14

I just found out that Lulu is having a Polish Days event, and now I really want to check it out! 🇵🇱 It’s called “Taste of Poland” and it runs until May 14 in all Lulu branches across Qatar. They’ve brought in all kinds of Polish products—chocolates, cheeses, snacks, and more. I haven’t been yet, but the photos and posts I’ve seen make it look  inviting. 🍫🧀 It’s always exciting when you can explore another country’s flavors right at your local store. I’m especially curious about the dairy and bakery items. From what I’ve read, the Polish ambassador even opened the event himself! It feels like a nice chance to try something new and support a cultural celebration. I’m hoping to pop in before the promotion ends. If anyone’s already been, let me know what’s worth trying!

A Shocking (and Proud) Culinary Discovery 🇭🇺🍲

A Shocking (and Proud) Discovery 🇭🇺🍲

During Ramadan, I stumbled upon something unexpected on Qgrabs: the Grand Lux Hotel's weekly Arabian  menu. Right there, among traditional regional dishes, was none other than Goulash — our beloved, hearty Hungarian soup.

Who would’ve thought that gulyás would travel this far and make it into an Arabian Ramadan menu? This is how international our flavors have become — comforting people across borders and cultures. 💫

Hungarian pride in a bowl!

Central European cuisine - hidden gems in Doha

While Central European cuisine may not be widespread in Doha, these establishments offer authentic and unique dining experiences that bring the rich flavors of Central Europe to the heart of Qatar. Whether you're craving the hearty dishes of Poland, the traditional flavors of Hungary, or European fusion delights, Doha's culinary scene has hidden gems waiting to be discovered.

Dukat Restaurant: A Balkan Culinary Experience

Located in Doha,  Hyatt Regency Oryx Doha  Dukat Restaurant brings the warm, rustic flavors of the Balkan Peninsula to the Gulf.Dukat’s roots are distinctly Balkan, with influences from Serbia, Bosnia, and surrounding areas.

Signature Dishes:

  • Ćevapi: Grilled minced meat sausages, typically served with flatbread and raw onions.

  • Pljeskavica: A Balkan-style spiced meat patty — think of it as the region’s answer to the hamburger.

  • Ajvar: A pepper-based relish often served alongside grilled meats.

  • Burek: A flaky pastry filled with meat or cheese, popular across the Balkans.

Why Visit?
People love the slow-cooked beans, served warm with fresh bread, the cozy, rustic “etno” atmosphere, and the inviting outdoor seating. Favorites include the Shopska salad, the juicy ćevapi, tender grilled meats, and the flakiest, most delicious burek in town. It's a go-to spot for authentic Balkan comfort food, full of hearty flavors and homestyle charm.

🇵🇱 Polka Restaurant: Authentic Polish Flavors

🇵🇱 Polka Restaurant: Authentic Polish Flavors in Bin Mahmoud

Polka Restaurant, located in Bin Mahmoud, is Qatar’s first and only dedicated Polish eatery. Cozy and unpretentious, it feels like stepping into a Polish home, where everything from the decor to the food speaks of tradition and heart.

What makes it special?
Polka serves dishes that are virtually impossible to find elsewhere in the region — from handmade dumplings to traditional soups passed down through generations.

Must-try dishes:

  • Pierogi – Traditional Polish dumplings with potato, cheese, or meat filling, lovingly folded and pan-fried or boiled.

  • Clear Polish Borscht – Clear beet soup with a rich flavor.

  • Zapiekanka – Poland’s take on open-faced street-style sandwiches, topped with mushrooms, cheese, and ketchup.

  • Polish home made  apple pie – A classic Polish  homemade dessert

Why visit?
Because Polka doesn’t just serve Polish food — it serves memories. The ingredients, the care, the family recipes — they all make Polka a rare and soulful culinary experience in Doha.

People love Polka Restaurant not only for its authentic Polish dishes, but also for its warm, simple ambiance and comfort food that’s hard to find elsewhere in Doha. One of the unexpected highlights is the apple pie — mildly sweet, not overly sugary, and perfectly balanced — the kind of homemade dessert that feels both nostalgic and rare in the city.

In addition to Polish classics like pierogi and barszcz, Polka also offers hearty favorites from around Central and Eastern Europe, such as Hungarian goulash, Ukrainian borscht soup, and chicken schnitzel. It’s a cozy spot where flavors from different cultures blend seamlessly, creating a unique dining experience.
