My Personal Experience at Hamad International Airport – June 24 ✈️🧳

I had a confirmed flight booked for June 24, and when I arrived at the airport for check-in, I was immediately struck by the number of delayed flights — many by 4–5 hours 😟. Still, I didn’t expect our flight to be affected.

Our flight was listed on the departure boards — but no gate number was shown 🛑. That was upsetting. In such a huge airport 🏢, not knowing where to go . It left us feeling lost. From time to time, we saw passengers rushing toward newly announced gates , which often changed last minute 🔁. Since we were heading to Europe and most European flights seemed to depart from Area C, we settled there.

Luckily, the area was comfortable and well air-conditioned ❄️. We waited patiently 🧘, had a light lunch 🍴, thinking we'd soon enjoy the in-flight meal. Around us, people sat or slept on chairs, benches, even on the floor 😴 — everyone was clearly exhausted but disciplined.

After almost five hours, our gate number finally appeared ⏳. We began boarding pass checks... and then everything stopped ⛔. We were told the flight had been cancelled and advised to return home 🏠.

At that point, all I wanted was to stretch out in my own bed  and sleep. Even getting out of the airport wasn’t easy 🚶‍♀️➡️. In total, we had spent around 10 hours inside.

We didn’t receive our checked luggage — they told us it would be sent once we confirm a new flight 📦✈️. Still, I must say the airport staff were kind and professional . They handed out free bottled water and chocolate 💧🍫, and when I tried to pay for food at the court, they said it was free of charge .

I don’t blame the airline. They handled a very tough situation with grace. I blame the warmongers who caused this regional crisis 🌍💥, impacting tens of thousands of travelers like us.

Qatar Airways Operations in Numbers After Historic Disruption

Following one of the most complex aviation disruptions in recent history due to regional airspace closures, Qatar Airways responded with swift and large-scale action. Within just 24 hours, the airline successfully reaccommodated tens of thousands of affected passengers and stabilized its flight network.

📊 Key Figures from the Disruption Response:

  • More than 20,000 affected passengers from approximately 90 diverted flights were rebooked within 24 hours

  • At Hamad International Airport, over 10,000 passengers were already in transit when the disruption began

  • Over 151 flights were immediately disrupted

  • The number of passengers in transit surged to over 22,000 by 05:00 local time

  • 4,600 customers were provided hotel accommodation, utilizing approximately 3,200 rooms across Doha

  • Over 35,000 meals were distributed to affected travelers

  • On Tuesday, 24 June, Qatar Airways operated a total of 390 flights

  • All 20,000 diverted passengers were cleared within 24 hours

  • More than 11,000 resumed their journeys during the morning wave on 24 June

  • The remainder departed during the evening wave and morning bank on 25 June

From Yalla to Wallah: Everyday Arabic words Expats Adopt Without Realizing

10 Arabic Words Expats in Qatar Can’t Stop Using

Living in Qatar means stepping into a rich blend of languages and cultures — and sooner or later, most expats start picking up Arabic expressions that are just too useful (or fun) to resist. Some become so natural, they slip into English conversations without anyone noticing. Here are 10 Arabic words and phrases that expats in Qatar love to use !

1. Yalla (يلا)Let’s go / Come on!

Short, energetic, and perfect for any situation.
Example: "Yalla, we’re going to be late for iftar!"

2. Yani (يعني)I mean / Like...

The ultimate filler word — vague but versatile.
Example: "The traffic was crazy, yani, we barely made it."

3. Habibi / Habibti (حبيبي / حبيبتي)My dear / darling

Used affectionately or even sarcastically among friends.
Example: "Relax, habibi, everything’s fine!"

4. Inshallah (إن شاء الله)God willing

Often used when making future plans — sometimes sincerely, sometimes ironically.
Example: "I’ll submit the report by Monday… inshallah."

5. Khalas (خلص)Enough / Done / That’s it

Perfect when you’re wrapping something up or setting a boundary.
Example: "No more sweets for you. Khalas!"

6. Wallah (والله)I swear to God!

Adds seriousness, surprise, or passion to any statement.
Example: "Wallah, that shawarma was the best I’ve ever had!"

7. Shoof / Shoofi (شوف / شوفي)Look!

Command form, used all the time when pointing something out.
Example: "Shoof this video, it's hilarious!"

8. Mafi Mushkila (مافي مشكلة)No problem!

A friendly, laid-back way to say everything’s okay.
Example: "You forgot the file? Mafi mushkila, I’ll resend it."

9. Zain (زين)Good / Fine

Common in Gulf Arabic, it’s short and easy to use.
Example: "How’s everything?" – "Zain, zain."

10. Aiwa (أيوه)Yes / Yeah

A punchy, satisfying alternative to "yes."
Example: "You coming for karak?" – "Aiwa!"

✨ Final Thought

These little words do more than bridge languages — they bring people closer. Whether you're a fresh arrival or a long-time expat, using local phrases like yalla and mafi mushkila is a sign you’re not just living in Qatar — you're living with Qatar.
