Seabirds of the Arabian Gulf: Life by the Waves

Seabirds in the Arabian Gulf live an exciting but challenging life! From the graceful Socotra Cormorant diving for fish 🐟 to the striking Greater Flamingo strutting through salt flats 🌅, these birds call this unique region home. The Gulf’s warm waters and tiny islands 🏝️ provide perfect nesting spots for terns, gulls, and plovers 🐦, while its mangroves offer food and shelter.

But life isn’t all smooth sailing! 🌪️ Seabirds face tough challenges like extreme heat ☀️, shrinking habitats 🌆, and pollution 🛢️. Many birds also get tangled in fishing nets 🎣, which can harm or even kill them.

Thankfully, efforts are being made to protect these feathered wonders 🛡️. Nature reserves and public awareness campaigns 🌱 are helping seabirds thrive.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, represented by the Marine Protection Department, successfully rescued a group of Socotra cormorants that were trapped in abandoned fishing nets in one of the marine areas. The inspection team from the Marine Protection Department removed the birds and cleared the nets.

The ministry urges all sea-goers to ensure the immediate retrieval of fishing nets after use to minimize harm to marine life and prevent environmental risks.
