beach cleaning campaigns in Qatar - World Cleanup Day - Sept 15

The Ministry of Municipality carried out beach cleaning campaigns at Al-Dhakhira, Al-Khuraij, and Al-Wakra, in addition to Al-Safliya Island, as part of the activities marking World Cleanup Day, observed annually on September 15. The campaign resulted in the collection of large quantities of waste, which were transported to designated treatment sites. This reflects the Ministry’s efforts to preserve the coastal environment, protect wildlife, and reduce marine pollution that negatively impacts biodiversity and ecosystems in coastal areas.

From Qatar to California: Protecting Workers from Extreme Heat

It’s 45°C today, and luckily it’s Friday — a break for outdoor workers. Since September 15, Qatar lifted the midday work ban, making it legal to work in extreme heat. Temperatures may drop below 40°C soon, but it’s still very challenging.

Many wonder why Qatar, seen as modern and progressive, does not do more for laborers. Cooling overalls exist but are not widely used.

Around the world, heat protections vary: the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman have summer midday work bans; Greece and Spain restrict outdoor work during heatwaves; in the U.S., only states like California and Arizona have strong protections. In California, outdoor work is restricted when temperatures exceed 30°C, and employers must provide shaded rest areas, water, and heat training for workers. These laws are among the strictest in the U.S. and serve as a model for protecting laborers from extreme heat. Many countries, including India and much of Latin America, offer little or no protection.

Qatar draws international attention because of its high-profile events and large labor force, but extreme heat affects workers globally. Solutions like cooling gear and shaded breaks should be adopted worldwide!

Exhibition of Stenin International Press Photo Contest - Katara

Qatar is  about  to  host the exhibition of the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest, which showcases the work of young photojournalists from around the world. The opening ceremony will take place on September 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Katara, Building 47, Gallery 1. Named after a Russian journalist, the contest gives a platform to photographers under 33 and often features powerful images of war, peace, culture, daily life, and social challenges. Before coming to Qatar, the exhibition has already toured in countries such as Serbia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mauritius, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, China, and Argentina. For Qatar, hosting this event is both a cultural opportunity and a reflection of its growing role as a hub for international art and dialogue .

Talabat Suspended in Qatar: Riders Struggle, Consumers Look for Options

______________________

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announces the closure of a company called  Talabat due to non-compliance with the provisions of Articles (7) and () of Law No. (8) of 2008 regarding consumer protection.

Talabat, a big food delivery company in Qatar, was stopped for one week by the government. This happened because of problems with customers being misled.

Many delivery riders are now without work and cannot earn money. This is hard for them because they depend on daily wages. Some riders have faced problems like late payments before.

For customers, Talabat is not working now. Other delivery apps like Snoonu are still running, but some orders may be slow.

This shows how important it is to protect both workers and customers. People should know their rights and check other options when one service stops.
